Removing in dash midranges

Recently I upgraded my speakers in front doors/tweeters and midbass/, can I simply disconnect midrange speakers in dash and take them out /just insulate wires and leave it like that/?

thanks

You can simply disconnect them, but depending on your factory amp (assume you are still using it, right?), it may be sending some frequencies to the midranges that are not being sent to the other speakers. If that is the case, you will lose some important sound--especially vocals.

Your best bet is to replace the mids with something of equal quality to the components you put in the doors. BSW sells 2.5-inch pairs for just this purpose, or if you don't mind a little wiring work yourself, just get your own 2.5's and wire them in.

I have only basic 6-speaker system without amp, which was sold only in europe..so radio unit is powering speakers /doesnt have crossovers built-in/ . I was thinking that disconnecting in dash speakers can help because radio unit will not power two, now unnecessary speakers..I`m assuming that my new 2-way component /with crossover/ system is covering all frequencies so midranges in dash arent necessary..

Do you have Premium sound w/ DSP? What model midbass and tweeters did you install? Did the tweeters install w/o problem?

I have only basic non DSP sound. In europe 3 types of sound system exist. Basic 6 speaker without amp, HIFI system - 10 speaker with amp and TOP HIFI 10 spk.+subwoofer with amp...

Basic 6 speaker system is really horrible /it doesnt have amp and crossovers../, it consist of 2 midbasses /piece of shit made in hungary with plastic chassis/ in front doors, 2 midbasses in rear doors and 2 midranges in dash. There are no tweeters!! So i removed midbasses in doors and installed new tweeters in front. Now I think those midranges in dash are not necessary anymore..

I have installed these components in front doors http://www.canton.de/de-produktdetail-car-qs2.160.htm
tweeters install was w/o any problems..

If you have the base system I don't believe you have the 2.5" speakers in the dash.

hehe, yes I have, I can post a photo if you want. This basic system is just unbelievable. Not only there were no tweeters in doors, midranges in dash are hard wired, there is no connector / I pulled about half meter of wire from dash, no sign of connector../, so the only way to remove them is to cut off the wire..

Guys you are lucky you dont have this system in US..I think you have never seen something like this..

So the question is: can I cut those midranges off, insulate remaining wire and leave it like that? There are 3 wires coming to this small speaker, why? Shouldnt there be only two +/-?

here is picture of this amazing system can you believe it? car for 50000euros and no even one tweeter, hehe

I never thought the Germans were too into things like sound systems or decent cupholders. Their theory is that people should have both hands on the wheel concentrating on high speed driving with no distractions.

Americans are more like steering with our knees, eating an In 'n Out burger and playing simultaneously with our iPods and making phone calls.

We have, though, pretty much given up on smoking.

Pete--Nice system Sounds like all 6 speakers are getting a full range signal from the head unit, so you should be OK to just cut the wires to those sweet midranges and tape them off. You will lose some volume capability, but you will gain something that doesn't sound like a mad wasp making a new nest in your dash!!!
