Question Do I need to update my os when I change my vin?

Hello folks

I bricked my original naviunit due to a not so successfull os update a week ago and got my self a used one from a Z4 2007 so now everything is up and running fine again.

I would like to set this "new" one to the right vin.nr and wonder because I read somewhere that an os update had to be done with a vin change. At the same page i read that this should not be the case when doing a vin coding only with navcoder/resler.

Since i allready bricked one, I'm not very fond of doing a new update with my own cd's and wonder what is the case, do I need to update the os due to a vin vhange or can I do it without the os update?

My car is a 2004 E83 X3 3.0i.

Sorry for my bad english

Shouldn't be the case... Navcoder will tell you if it's necessary. If you still have the MK4 nav computer (DVD icon on the drive,) then it's harder to brick the unit by updating the software.

yepp, still have it and the dvd sign is there

Thank you for answering me

What happend was that it told me it needed the os cd due to a fooling around thing with inpa ( I pressed the color screen button ) and I fed it with v32. Then it told me that the loading was on it's way and the screen went black and kept that annoying color. Not even a backlight. Tried several other versions including a verified cd and the result was the same. It takes the cd and I can hear it's moving the laser. A couple of minutes later it spits out the cd. And nothing more...
I also can se that the led is both flashing and solid when doing this and it didnät effect anything else. My radio plays fine for as long as I want and I can change all settings but not see what I'm doing

Now I'm totaly out of ideas and changed it for another used one but I still want to get the old one up and running. I have tried different os verisons from very early to newer versions but it does the same every time...

When you burn a cd make ssure it at the slowest rated speed of the blank cd, do not force a non supported speed, (like x1).

If the disc supports x8 use x8.

sounds like you have crashed the firmware with a badly written cd.

P.S you do not need to change the vin number they work regardless.
