Current Options for upgrading your MKIV to perspective mode and Changing Logos

Since there was so much information in so many threads, I thought it would be helpful to make one last post to resolve all of the questions people keep asking.

---Please NOTE all of these procedures are HACKS and you could destroy your navigation computer--- Use the instructions and the files at your own risk. The below procedures have been done by others, but you are on your own if you screw something up.

IF you have MKIII, or MKIV and want to change your Splash Screen on the nav computer. The MKII does not seem to have splash screen that I am aware of, but I do not know about all of the software versions

2Wires made a nice program that you can download and change the gif file logos. Here is a How to guide http://www.xoutpost.com/102790-post161.html

GifExtractor http://www.car-deck.info/redirect.php?gifextractor Gif Extractor was made by the hard work of 2Wires check out his website here http://www.car-deck.info/ and the shop here http://www.car-modules.info/They have a nice CarPC offering, that I am now running in my car. You should at least check it out for all of his hard work and effort

One of the best things about the Car-Deck product is that they have sorted out the CD Changer emulation so that you can run CarPC AND Sirius in the same car. Their CD emulation uses the new CD player emulation and works very well.

You need .NET 1.1 installed to run this file:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Else there is an error like 0x00000035c.

IF you have MKIV and want to change the viewing perspective (see image below), you have some options (you can edit the splash screen on any version)

1) Install V26.09A which is Alpha pre-release code on your navigation computer. http://www.xoutpost.com/101008-post1.html This code is actually OLDER than the BMW Released v26 software, and has known bugs.

2) Install V26.09A navigation, and then upgrade to V26 BMW released code http://www.xoutpost.com/43557-post1.html This option will temporarily allow you to operate your system in Perspective Mode until you change the viewing option.

3) Install V26 Perspective. http://www.xoutpost.com/navos2.php You can install using the Alcohol 120% files .mdf and .mds OR you can just take the single file navboot.zip http://www.xoutpost.com/navos2.php and drop it into a fresh clean V26 BMW released CD image. The directory you will need to replace the old navboot file is \V_2\RR\0101\BMWC01S\app_sw

This method will Exchange the Poiting NORTH menu option for Perspective under split screen ONLY. You can USE Perspective in any mode, the mod was ONLY done in the source code for Split screen. If you want to change the map viewing to Pointing North you will need switch to full screen mode. The Logo is the ===BMW=== logo

4) Install V26 Toggle. Detailed Pictures on this link http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/164175

http://www.xoutpost.com/navos2.phpYou can install using the Alcohol 120% files .mdf and .mds OR you can just take the single file navboot toggle.zip http://www.xoutpost.com/navos2.php and drop it into a fresh clean V26 BMW released CD image. The directory you will need to replace the old navboot file is \V_2\RR\0101\BMWC01S\app_sw

This method will EXCHANGE the Poiting NORTH menu option for Perspective under split screen ONLY. You can USE Perspective in any mode, but only toggle it in Split screen. If you want to change the map viewing to Pointing North you can just press the menu item Direction of travel TWICE. This menu item toggles between pointing north and direction of travel. The Logo is the ===BMW=== logo

5) Install V26 Toggle 3D. http://www.xoutpost.com/navos2.phpYou can install using the Alcohol 120% files .mdf and .mds OR you can just take the single file navboot toggle.zip http://www.xoutpost.com/navos2.php and drop it into a fresh clean V26 BMW released CD image.

If you want to change the 2D map viewing to Pointing North you can just press the menu item Direction of travel TWICE. The menu item for Travel Direction toggles between pointing north and direction of travel in 2D.

If you want to change the map 3D Perspective viewing from Direction of travel to Pointing North you can just press the menu item Direction of travel TWICE. As in 2D, the menu item Perspective toggle between pointing north and direction of travel for 3D Perspective.
The Logo is the ===BMW=== logo

6) "Final" Version. You can change modes in split and Full screen by selecting Pointing North or Direction of travel. For example If in Pointing North 2D selecting Pointing North will bring up Pointing North 3D!

http://www.xoutpost.com/navos2.php
If you want to change the map from Pointing North 2D to 3D Perspective Pointing North you can just press the menu item Pointing North TWICE. If you want to change the map from Travel Direction 2D to 3D Perspective Travel Direction you can just press the menu item travel Direction TWICE.
The Logo is the gif image ===BMW=== logo

**** NOTE when using ANY of the alcohol 120% mdf or mds files, burning the image may give you an error that the mds file is a different size than the mdf. Just select option two to ignore the file size in the mds file and use the file size of the image. If you are an alcohol 120% expert, maybe you can tell us how to fix that error. I only used this program as everyone else was using it.

If there are any additional updates to the V26 files I will post them on http://www.xoutpost.com/navos2.php and update this thread

Regards,
Martin

Thanks, Martin, great summary! One minor correction though: the MK2 does not have a splash screen.

Very cool, Martin. Thanks for all of your hard work and information. I'm going to check out Toggle 3D later on today.

Great summary- thanks!

Can you (or someone else) please confirm that this does work for the MkIII Navs? I thought I read on this board somewhere that this was not good for MkIIIs?

To clarify- I am referring to editing the splash screens and not perspective view. Thanks.

There is no reason to think that you can not edit the splash screen in the MKIII the same way as the MKIV. I have not done this yet, but I was planning on doing it shortly to change a Range Rover MKIII computer with Off Road Guidence to a BMW MKIII with Off road Guidence.

The file you want is USW_LOAD located in the most recent software folder in the MK3/0103/ subfolder

2Wires might need to make some changes to his program, but otherwise you can hack it with the hex code.

Cool. Thanks. Lots of guys on the M5board asking about it. I don't have a MkIII, but I will prepare an image and see if anyone wants to try it (with the acceptance of course that it is a hack and may screw things up royally)

If anyone with a MkIII has anything to report- let us know!

Hi Guys

I think i've finally managed to upgrade my map features to include a new logo & perspective mode, it takes a few goes to work around it & looks fantastic, still not sure which version i have, can anyone clarify please?

In split mode i can appear to change from travel direction & to North, if i toggle to travel direction & then hit perspective it still seems to swing to North, does this seem ok or am operating it in some strange way, am i also correct that after you switch between travel & North (if you are in perspective view) it then reverts back to map view & you then have to hit perspective again?

Great work

Is anyone else having problems downloading gifextractor or getting on the carmes site as I just get "cannot find server" errors.
I've set my browser settings to LOW & turned off popup blocker but it makes no difference!

I must say that this topic is so confusing There are so many options that I'm confused on which one i want to try! I know for sure i do'nt want to use the 29.06a code due to the bugs that people have mentioned. I just don't know enough about the differences in the other choices to make the "best" choice..heh.

I was in exactly the same boat as you, i opted for the toggle 3D as it seems the best upgrade with the most options for switching views.

I copied the files to a cd, downgraded to V25 & then inserted the new version 26 with toggle 3D option, it works superbly, it seems daunting when you read the instructions for changing the greeting screen & swapping files, but believe me when you follow the step by step guide it's pretty easy (& i'm no tecchie).
