I've taken a look at
these intructions to remove the 16:9 monitor in my E46, but it's quite obvious that mine is fitted differently as the cover frame is not removable, and there are not screws at the bottom. Instead, there are two spring loaded catches on the left and right near the bottom.
I've managed to unclip the left one by fabricating a tool from a piece of wire that allowed me to release it by pulling it to the right underneath the contol panel.
However the right hand side clip works differently to the left one, and there's only a small hole there rather than a movable release catch. If I shine a torch from the top directly down inside the right hand side of the unit I can just see that anything inserted into the hole is not releasing the catch. There's very little room to manoeuvre in there as my vehicle is right hand drive. I've tried for several hours to release the right hand side using wire bent into various shapes without any joy.
On top of that, the contol panel closes every 15secs, making it very difficult to gain access.
What's the secret to removing the monitor? Is there a special tool? Does anyone perhaps have a photo of the release catches?
Thanks in advance.
