TMC is green: where are the roadworks ?

Finally got the right vdo CD with TMC codes for my Mk3.

TMC is now green! wahee !

but in my area (ipswich, UK) there doesn't appear to be any traffic POIs shown anywhere.

If I move the map to around the M25 there still isn't.

Does it just show traffic problems in your local area ? i.e. would I need to physically drive to a traffic black spot to see POIs appear on my map ?

You will only get traffic alerts (AFAIK) if you have programmed in a route.

you also need to be tuned to the right radio station for tmc to work.. if you have a single tuner, then it needs to be on classic fm I think for the uk (when you are listening to the radio) or if you are listening to cd/tape I think it will go to classic fm automatically in the background?..

I had classic fm as a stored station just incase so its kind of already looking at it when I had a single tuner, but upgraded to a dual tuner; the secondary tuner will always be tuned to classic fm or whatever the local tmc channel is, regardless of whats happening with the radio/cd/tape

Not sure which tuner is in the X5 as standard..

yeh mine has the dual tuner.

And its picking up.tuned to classic as it's green.

It was grey with my old non TMC CD, and RED when you first switch on (not tuned in).

TMC is 'localised' a bit by the Nav computer (or radio).

If TMC is green then you should be able to see symbols on the map where there are traffic warnings, if you zoom out you should see them somewhere.

Also, you can get a list of all TMC message by going to the Destination input menu, then scroll down until you get to "Traffic Information", then from that menu select "Message List". That should give you a list of all messages that you are currently receiving.

Talking

thanks Richard. yeh tried that, and there were no messages in the list... so either it was the one minute in UK history with no traffic jams, it's localised, or it's cuffed.

I will investigate further this evening....

I think it takes some time to get the messages. THey are ordinary sms type messages but sent within the radio carrier. You might find they only start coming after quite a few minutes from each time you switch on. Mine also show up even if there is not route set they are just different colours if they are on the route (I think grey if off route).

I think you will find that TMC only works with DVD navigation system
