Navigation System Replacement/removal

I have an 2005 BMW E46 with sat nav/TV and a 2005 X5 with Sat nav/TV. Both versions seem to be different and the E46 seems to be more up to date. Would it be possibloe to swap the DVD units over without any other alterations, as i am selling the E46 and want to keep the new system in the X5?

If so is there anywhere i can get instructions to remove/replace the DVD nav unit?

Oliver

The nav system hardware in both cars is pretty much identical. If there are any differences, it is probably due to the navigation system OS. You could update the nav OS in both and they would probably be the same.

Computer will swap over, but an e46 NAV screen cannot be used in the X5 due to clearance.

Would the E46 screen fit in the E39? I like it because it has a CD slot instead of a cassette.

Not that I'm aware of.

Do you have NAV? A screen swap simply for CD would be a very costly option.

Unable to install Nav?

My wife had the 2005 X in for service the other day and she asked about installing BMW nav. The dlr told her it can't be done with OEM equip. Is this legit, and if so what's the best option for installing an aftermarket system. Also, I'm getting close to the 50000 mile pt and wanted to know if I should have the car serviced one more time prior to exp. of that.

OEM NAV can be installed in any X5. It's a bit more expensive than aftermarket, but nothing will integrate as nicely.

there is a standard retrofit kit with very clear and detailled instructions available from BMW. Many dealers however do not like to retrofit anything, so they say it cannot be done.

But it can....
