Did BMW ever introduce a 5th generation Nav system?
See attached pdf document. Look at page 2 under "DVD navigation system for I-Bus vehicles." It mentions a 5th generation DVD based system. Is this correct or some kind of BMW typo? Last edited by X5 Meister; 03-03-2009 at 04:53 AM. |

It is probably a typo. The "DVD Navigation" that section refers to is what we generally call the MKIV. The SW version it mentions is "5-1/60" however, there is no mention anywhere of the "4-1/60" version that we all see on our MKIV systems.
Now that I think about it, I do not know where the name "MKIV" actually came from. I would not be surprised if that is a term that enthusiasts coined, and BMW uses different language to describe the systems.
