Do you know if your Nav computer is an MkII or MkIII?

Sounds like an issue with your NAV computer. Either a bad connection, or maybe it died on you. Your radio still works fine since it is connected to a separate radio module under the spare tire.

It could be a problem with the screen itself or the navigation computer.
Does the nav drive have a red light that comes on when you first start the vehicle? If not then it could be a fuse or a bad nav drive. If yes then I would try to find someone near me that has a Mk3 or Mk4 nav drive and swap them to see if that is the problem. Through a process of elimination you should be able to narrow down the cause.

I had similar problem
I had similar problem with my car. Blank screen Radio used to turn off after 3 min from initial start. When I took my car to BMW deler they wanted $2200 to fix the problem. I simply replaced the computer my self and everything is working now. it cost me around $400 for old MKIII computer. The problem was started after jump starting my car. Also, if you disconnect the battery while computer still on then it will cause the same problem. Computer stays on for about a min after car is turned off.
You may want to check all the fuses. 1. There are three fuses in the trunk above the battery. 2. Also there are several fuses in the glove box. open the glove box and look up. there are two white locks about 8-10 inch a part. You can unlock them by simply turning them. |
