Check the permanent power, battery power, ground and databus connections to the radio module.
Of course, I assume you did fit a replacement radio module? The old non-nav radio cannot work with the nav system. The radio turns on by clicking the radio button, not by turning it. If the wiring is fine then you have a defect radio module. |

Kiwi - Are you sure he needs a new tuner module? I'm pretty sure the tuner is common amongst all E39 M5's (Nav or not).

Douglkas: depends on his wiring. I've seen early E38s wired in such a way that the BM24 could not be fitted. He needs to check his wiring.

I've had a similar problem with my X5. I had to go to the dealer? connect the DIS and let the vehicle 'see' the navigation with the DIS. And before this operation - there was no sound at all.

Hi guys, thanks for your input. Interested in the reply from Armen about having to go to the dealer, any one else had this problem with no sound what so ever, and had the dealer fix it. Don't want to give dealers big money!!!.
To give you an update, all sat nav is working, including TMC but no voice directions, stereo function now up on display showing cd connected, and what CD'S are in the magazine, radio showing stations, but no sounds, not even a crackle! All fuses / relays checked, the only thing that is not working is heated rear window and remote locking. Checked voltage to aerial amp and only getting 0.78 volts, therefore i will have to find the problem here as i would think it should be 12 v,correct?? Also if the aerial amp is down am i right in thinking that i would still get a signal all be it weak, but at least enough to give poor radio reception? Cheers appreciate the input Colin |

Here's a thought: if the power feed to the antenna amp is shorted (inside the antenna amp, or connected to wrong antenna amp plug) then the radio may switch to automatic protection mode, and switch off the audio output stages. Maybe...just maybe... this is the problem So try this to find out if I am right: 1. Unplug the white wire to the aerial amp (which is the power feed from the radio). 2. Observe what happens with the radio - check if you have CD & nav sound. If so, your white wire to the radio is connected to the wrong plug on the antenna amp, or the antenna amp is faulty. Let me know what happens... |

Check the audio system fuses both in the glovebox and on the fusebox near the battery. |

I've found out the wiring loom and bm54 were originally from a 2006 X5.I've tried the speaker method but no out put.It doesn't seem to make any difference to the stereo when removing the white power lead, stereo will still show stations.Definately got 12v at power to aerial amp (white ),but this is the part that interests me.i noticed some black insulating tape at the drivers side (UK spec) right hand side, near where the r/h amp on c pillar is.On cutting back there are 2x mini co-ax cable tied back, just like the ones on the tv tuner and bm54 .This makes me think that this could be the problem, but where do they attach to.The amp on that side (r/h) has no facility to house these, could they be for a tv amplifier or alike. The TV does work(no sounds!!) but poor signal at times. I,m ready to give it a go again, even if i have to start from scratch again,so any help will be appreciated. Many thanks. Colin |
