newly bought 16:9 replacement monitor freezes!?

i have a 2001 4.4 X5
i just did the replacement upgrade from my factory 4:3 monitor to a 2005 X5 16:9 monitor/tape deck. I also replaced my MK3 to the MK4.

i bought both from an eBay seller from Lithuania who has sold a ton of these on eBay for the last couple of years. Tons of feedback. I assume that these might be refurbished or taken from crashed cars, after tons of emails and reassurance i finially beleived him that i would not have any problems.

well, its the 2nd day and the screen on the monitor is freezing, nothing happens. The actual functions work, but what ever is on the screen is stuck and frozen. Also, i am now noticing that the Radio goes silent for no reason sometimes, i can turn it off and back on and it works again, but its very annoying!

Can anyone tell what is going on or how i could fix this? The seller says it's probably not the monitor because he tested it before he sent it, and its most likely my "hardware"? As anyone heard this before?

He has been comunicating with me regularly, and is ok with me sending back the monitor for another one. But i really would like to know for sure what the problem is? I was thinking its just a bad refurbished monitor or something, but i really have no idea, please reply with any info possible, thanx!

Are you sure it is the monitor and not the Mk4 drive unit? If you still have the old components then try swapping them back in one at a time to see if you can narrow down which component is causing the freezing to occur (all screen and drive components will work with each other, so don't worry about that). Hopefully if you can id which is bad, the seller will do an exchange for you.

Are you using a copy of a map disk or an original? If you are using a copy, that might be the problem. The MKIV hates DVD copies, and a copy will cause the nav computer to freeze and to reboot. It is a common problem with the MKIV. Try using the nav computer with an original map disk and see if that solves the problem.

it was the disc! Everything seems to be working fine with my very old MK3 disc! (thanx 2 both of u for the great advice)

i do noticed that part of the disc seems warped or almost mellted?

the seller has offered to send another copy, do you think a clean copy will work fine, or should i definitely buy a real disc?

btw- i really would like to thank the people of this site and the people who contributed to the monitor replacement directions, great job! (i did notice a spelling mistake tho =) )

Odds are, you will probably need a real map disk.

I was concerned about theft, so I tried to use a backup copy in my MKIV. I burned many copies of my map disk for my MKIV using different media, speeds, and copying programs. I never got a map disk copy that was stable 100% of the time. Life has been perfect since I just started using my original disk.

You can buy them on-line at http://navteq.com

Once in a while they pop up on ebay as well. Don't buy one older then 2007.1 and make sure you are buying an original and not a copy.
