FYI, I just wandered to the Navteq website and saw that the US 2008.1 maps are now available.

Go to a dealer and sit in a brand new car and look at the version of the nav i-drive system and see if you have the latest one or not. BTW what is your version on a 2006?

As far as I know, only the dealer can upgrade your system.
cool, thanks for ur reply. i wasted so much time reading pages and pages of how to upgrade the MKIV system, assuming i had one... well i guess i learned it the hard way, but it's still learning nonetheless.

Also, with confirmed MODE2 correctly burned CD's, it will take the CD, spin it, makes noise as if its doing something, few minutes later, ejects the cd, and then in a seconds takes the cds again, and keeps going and going, should I keep letting it do that or not let it take the cd back in? Also, I have GT1 computer... could that be any help? I read somewhere, chaning the language? Im no expert on using GT1 yet, still firguring it out... so step by step instructions would be GREATLY appreciated...

THANKS!!!!!

Hi guys

Hi there, just upgraded my system to v31 on a mk4, now running a 2008-1 nav disc.
Can any body help me turn on the safety camera function on the system, i was told the feature was imbedded in the new upgrade, is this the case?
Regards

Limey

You will have ther NAVI01 (CD), NAVI02 (DVD), or NAVI03 (DVD)

The software version is in the Service Menu, which you can access yourself through the iDrive controller:

To access service menu in i-drive cars:
1. From the main menu display, press the controller down for minimum 6 seconds.
2. Turn the controller 3 increments clockwise (to the right).
3. Turn the controller 3 increments counter-clockwise (to the left).
4. Turn controller 1 increment clockwise (right).
5. Turn controller 1 increment counter-clockwise (left).
6. Turn controller 1 increment clockwise (right).
7. Push down on the controller.
8. To exit the service mode, select the return arrow at the bottom on the left of the screen.

The versions and release dates of the software for the nav unit are, starting from 2006:

Sep-05:
NAVI01 7.3.2
NAVI02 8.4.4
NAVI03 9.1.16

Mar-06:
NAVI01 & NAVI02: no change (end of developmment)
NAVI03: 9.3.0C

Sep-06
NAVI01 & NAVI02: no change
NAVI03: 9.4.0A

Mar-07
NAVI01 & NAVI02: no change
NAVI03: 9.5.C

Sep-07
NAVI01 & NAVI02: no change
NAVI03: 9.6.04

Mar-08
NAVI01 & NAVI02: no change
NAVI03: 9.7.02

Revisions are detailled in the Service Information Bulletins, which are available to the dealer. I have a few copies here. Tell us what version you currently have loaded in your car and I can advise what bugs have been fixed and features added in subsequent versions

The ability to display "Safety Cameras" is not a feature of the standard map disk or V31 software. To display safety cameras you need to modify the disk by adding the safety camera POI. May of the copied map DVD's contain speed camera data already, do a search and you will find all the information you need.

Hi limey, Welcome to the forum,

The speed (sorry safety) camera option for any of the BMW map discs are not an official BMW product and are a non BMW sanctioned modification to the map disc, these disc are modded by the discs owners or bought from places like eBay.

Whoever told you that the cameras are an imbedded option the OEM map disc doesn’t know what they are talking about.

There are a couple of threads that will explain how to add the cameras your self with a few simple tools, do a quick search.

Hi Limey,

Yes indeed, 'safety' cameras are added to the map disc (as Richard and ccfj1 said) as points of interest (POI). If you obtain a map disc with them on, or add them yourself, you then switch them on via the POI selection menu, just as you would with petrol stations or car parks etc. There are a few members (incl me) who can point you in the direction of a very good map disc supplier who adds 'safety' cameras.

They are definitely not embedded in the v31 upgrade.
