North America Map DVD 2009.1

FYI

Navteq have released the "North America Map DVD Professional Version 2009.1" for 2007 and 2008 models and "North America Map DVD High Version 2009.1" for 2003-2006 models.

They do not have the info on what the 2009.1 updates are on their website yet and, when I followed up with Navteq, they said they would report that to their web guys. The updates shown are still from the 2008.1 version.

Unfortunately, it's their normal price of $199 + shipping + taxes (minimum of $222) if you want it. I've asked Morristown BMW what their price would be. It might be a while before they get them though.

I got my 2008 E70 about 6 days ago, the DVD in the nav system was the old ver. (2008-1) when I insisted on the recent release (2009-1) the stealer coughed up a copy for no charge on the spot. He only gave me the new release DVD when he felt he was going to lose the sale altogether, but did not fail to mention that it was $ 200.00 he is losing on this sale.... (hard to believe..). I am suppose to feel sorry for him.

Oh, you did the right thing by pushing for the new 2009.1 version. I'm surprised that they had the 2009.1 in stock though.

Just 2 days before picking up the new car I was reading on X5world about the new release. Thanks to x5world and thanks to everybody who post here, such a wealth of information.

It does not appear to make sense for me to get the 2009.1 version as I'm in the North-East. The updates, which are still not visible on the Navteq website are:

Updated as of Sept 2008
Total Miles 6,169,671
Total POIs 7,281,928
Restaurants 476,585
ATMs 122,559
Gas Stations 100,850

POI's are up considerably (as they used be around 1.7 million) but the rest of the numbers haven't changed much up or down.

I'm assuming the 2009.1 North America DVD is now dual layer, therefor able to accomidate the growth in 1.7 M POI to 7.3 M Points of Interest?
Hence requiring v32 on your MKIV...

I am getting a 2008 535Xi, how do I make sure that the disk is the most recent?

Pop the Nav DVD out and look at it. It has the version number on the left. For example, "2008.1" under "DVD ROM".

I understand that but is it reasonable for me to expect the 2009 version since the car is a 2008?

No, 2009.1 is still Single Layer.. about 3GB in size... still considerably bigger than 2.2GB for the 2006.1 version.
