Newbie Very Confused ...

Hello im new to BMW's, i recently got a 02' M3 SMG and wanted to know is there any upgrades i can do for my sat nav or splash screens - can somebody point me in the right direction or give me some instructions.

The version ive got is SW 3-1/63 .. it doesn't have "DVD" stamped on the piece of hardware you put the CD in. Hope somebody can help or set me straight

You have MK3 navigation unit and you have the latest software in it. No sence to update anything

Now you can think only about the upgrade to MK4 (DVD) unit. With it you'll get latest maps, faster navigation, Perspective mode...

For the upgrade you need to buy only navi unit, installation is very simple - just plug-ang-play

Yep

Gotta be careful though, or you'll kill the nav

Edit the usw_load file and change the GIF to another GIF (similar size)

Hello all,

I discovered xoutpost.com few days ago and it is very useful, congrats.

However, I am still confused on which firmware should I use to updated my NAV system and how to get an updated map (if possible, I am located in the GCC).

I have a z4 2007 model and its actual version is SW 4-1/80.

Thanks in advance for your help

The firmware is updated with the OS CD.
The OS CD contains firmware for many different nav systems.
The last Mk4 firmware ever release was 4-1/100, which displays as 4-1/00

The 4-1/100 firmware is found on OS CD V31 or newer (ie: any OS CD V31 or higher has the same Mk4 firmware on it)

You can get the original BMW OS here:
Home

Make a CD from the image file using ImgBurn (The Official ImgBurn Website)
Eject map disc and insert OS CD into nav drive
Follow onscreen instructions
Remove OS CD when requested
Press the round BM button to reboot when requested
Done!

As for map discs, they can be obtained officially for your country from your local BMW dealer.
For unofficial sources, google is your friend.
