Ccfj1.... thank you so much.. I installed your 'Alpina mk3' splashscreen on my B3 and it looks soooooo cool now... it really adds another touch of class to the car.

Only trouble is... it's a 4:3 screen, so it looks a bit squashed at the sides

I know it's very cheeky of me, but could you do me a version for the 4:3 screen please?

All I can offer you by return is my gallery at m5board.com, some nice photos of Goodwood Fos and revival meetings, in 1024x768, but if there are any you'd like the Hi res (7Mp) originals of, mail me and I'll send them pronto.

The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com) - Ratty's Albums

Once again, thank you... I've learned so much about my (first) Nav unit and all of it, from here at Xoutpost... you guys are genius

The image is the OEM standard size for the unit, and is for both the mk3 and mk4.

To get it to stretch out you will need to upgrade to a mk4

As for hacking it about so it could be rigged to work on a mk3, (and not look squashed) could be problematic.

Got it installed and it looks great . ccfj1 I want to thank you again for all the help. You made this much easier. The only issue was the splash screen is Manchester United... As much as I love football its the American style for me. What would I have to do to change that to something else? Or if you had it and had time a ///M, ///M5, or BMW would all be fine with me. IF you dont and can point me how to do it I will give it a try. Again thanks do much for the help.

-Kyle

Also worth noting I used a DVD instead of a CD and it worked great!

You need some software; these are just an example others work just as well;
UltraIso
Imgburn
GTK libraries
You need navtweak.

I use UltraIso, it will let you extract the navboot file from the v31.mds file and save back (the new image) to a v31.iso file (ready for cd burning)

Install UltraIso,
Then run UtraIso
File, Open "v32.cue" (or the modded image file.)
Navigate to "V-2/RR/0101/BMWC01S/app_sw" in the now open image.
Drag and drop the navboot out of the image onto desktop (or sub-dir)

Install navtweak (including the GDK librarys), and put the navtweak app, in the BIN dir.

Open navtweak
File, Open "navboot"
Select the 2nd tab (images)

1: For sky select romicons #8 and right click replace, (with your choice)
2: For splash seletct rombitmaps #14 and right click replace, (with your choice)
3: For 3d icons rombitmaps select rombitmaps (you get the idea)

Then save the navboot (keep a copy of the original safe).

Then drag and drop into the open UltraIso session (back where you found it, "V-2/RR/0101/BMWC01S/app_sw").

The nav unit doesn't allow it to "update" with the same software as already installed. So you have to fake the SoftwareVersion.
do the following: also extract the 2 .tbl files from the directoy:
<drive>:\V_2\RR\0101\BMWC01S
Open it in an HEX editor (like Freeware, PSPad PSPad - free unicode developer editor, handles near any syntax like HTML, PHP, XHTML, JavaScript, ASP, Perl, C and many other languages with HEX editor, multilanguage interface)

In the first line you find something like: 31 30 30 30 This means: 1000 So: Software-Version 10.00
Just edit the last 30 to 31 and you nav unit will think it's a new Software Version and you can update your v31without prior downgrade to V29

The next time you update, you can edit it back to 0800 then 0801 again...

Save the UltraIso image as v31.iso, then burn a cd ad 1x speed.

That's it.
