VSM Install - easy- hard?
I'd like to buy a VSM that I can get cheap from a friend on the E46 board. He says it's plug and play into the Nav system.. But I have NO, NADIA, ZIPPO, experience with this option. Can anyone who has done so, give me an idea of how big a challenge it is..? FWIW, my car is non-DSP, factory Nav, no sirius, or anything else that might get in the way on an 06 X5 3.0.. Thanks ED PS. Is this something maybe I could get a hand with between shots of Patron at the Crabshack.. any special tools I need to bring along..? Cheers ! |

You may already have a video switch module. You need to lift up some trim and check.

It's a silver box, about 1/2 the size of a VHS with blue and white quadloks, part 8 in this diagram.
I don't know where it is in the X5, probably on the nav rack in the luggage compartment. |

The TV tuner also switches video, but it's main function is to be a TV tuner. BMW also make a Video Switch Module, hard to find, which is just a video switcher and has no TV tuner inside it. All it does is switch RGB, and it also contains a composite video interface Difficult if not impossible to find in RealOEM. |

Jochen, is the VSM P/N 84 21 0 302 770? There is a small module in the kit davidf used to install his camera. He posted a DIY on BB nav forum 2 years ago. This was the switch P/N I found when I looked up one of the kits parts list. Backup camera install write-up...
