Many components will, but.....

the nav drive will be either a MkI or MkII, which are both very slow drive units. The radio module will need an adaptor harness. You'll need to pick up an X5 nav retrofit harness. And the screen unit (4:3) won't fit in very nicely and the woodgrain cover won't match up well with the X5's interior.

In my opinion, given the amount of labor involved in doing this conversion, I would recommend getting the newer nav drive (MkIII minimum, but preferably the MkIV) and either the X5 4:3 screen or the 16:9 widescreen.

Here is the description of an item, may be you will find it more informing:

You are looking at the complete GPS Nav system from BMW E39 530i with wide screen(16:9)not the small one you see(4:9) and RGB/SYNC converter which allow you to watch DVD on your stock NAV screen. The auction will come with 1. Stock BMW wide screen(16:9, not the 4:9)in perfect cond with no dead pixels. This thing selling over $600 on ebay 2. Stock NAV unit in perfect working cond( i have only 1 original BMW disc and 1 copy disc for CA, but you always can get any disc on Ebay for less than $20)It's MK2 i think(female voice). 3. Stock BMW 6 CD changer with 2 magazines perfect working cond. Comes with CD changer bracket as well. 4. RGB/SYNC converter from(TVandNav2go.com)with all install manual, which allow you to watch DVD on the stock NAV screen. It can be play even when you are moving. It's truetly plug and play and fully reverseable. Check the web site for more infomation. This unit cost $475 already 5. Planet audio in dash mobile DVD/MP3/CA player with remote. This comes with 3 years manfacture warranty( i have the warranty card with that) also mounting kit for the player as well. 6. Audiovox FM modulator. I had this set up on my car for a month, but now i am upgrade to the aftermarket system(got it for my christmas gift) so that's why i am selling all these. Payment can be MO, cashier check or personal check, i can't take paypal though. Email for more questions. It can be work with other BMW but i am not so sure, so please check with your local dealer or any forums. This is a steal for a complete NAV and DVD system for your BMW. And thanks for looking. Buyer will be responsible for shipping.

Let me know what do you think.

Thanks

I found the auction you are referencing on eBay, and yes those components will work in an X5. The nav drive is a MkIII, and the screen unit will work in the X5. The X5 uses a different plastic trim ring around the nav screen, so you'll need to pick up that part to complete the install. But that trim ring is only about $25.

Mainly this one - http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-58.html

There are several other retrofit guides on the home page in the NAVIGATION section.
