So I'm Confused On How This Upgrading Works..

hey guys,
i just recently purchased an 00' X5 and have been looking at upgrading my navigation.i assume i have the MkIII and whatever software version(not sure) but as far as upgrading versions/maps what are my real options? just basically looking for the newest software/map that my navigation system can handle (saw that it cant handle the newer versions) thanks for your help guys. i know i have the 2001 map cd, and would like to upgrade that to newer also.

Do you have the 4:3 or 16:9 screen? Go into the Settings and there should be a number in the top right corner to tell you what version of the software you're running, eg: SW 3-1/63, etc. It'd also be helpful to know what the build date of your X is. You find this inside the driver's door.
