ALL FORMS HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED!
If future cancellations occur, I will keep you posted!
As soon as all 25 orders are processed, I will close this post.

Original Thread (Background):
http://www.xoutpost.com/bavarian-soundwerks-mobile-electronics-forum/14710-jl-audio-free-custom-subwoofer-enclosure.html

JL Audio Website:
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_stealthbox_pages.php?page_id=168

For those of you who do not realize how good of a deal this is, I have been quoted over a thousand dollars for a custom fiberglass enclosure only, without the woofer, let alone the shipping. This is truly once in a lifetime. The product was designed, tested, and built by professional craftsmen.

YES, THE SUBWOOFER IS INCLUDED.

SEE AMPLIFIER DEAL BELOW!

You snooze, you will have to buy retail.

This will be a one-time offer only (due to existing JL Audio dealer relationships).

The MSRP of the X5 Stealthbox is $550
*The Special Discounted Price for our group buy: $385!

*Special Price INCLUDES UPS ground shipping to the 48 states (HI, AK and PR will incur additional shipping costs)!!!

THIS PRODUCT IS NOT EVEN AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC, YET! We get a first shot since members of this Forum got involved in the project.

This group buy is not available to buyers outside of the US (No exceptions)

I will be sent twenty-five numbered PDF forms that I can email to those who commit to purchase. These forms need to be manually filled out and signed with credit card information, or a cashier's check, and then MAILED directly to JL Audio. No email forms or CC info will be accepted by JL. Do not send any personal order information to me. Once you get the exclusive numbered form, send it directly to JL Audio!

This whole site is constructed on helping each other out. We will not benefit from this amazing opportunity if those who request a form have no intentions of following through. Please contact me if you are a serious buyer ready to place an order immedietly.

I will not discriminate since I do not know anyone on this forum. First 25 legit requests will get a form. You must send me your email address and a contact number with first and last name!

ADDED:

We will allow each buyer to add one amplifier from the following two choices to each order.

A1200 (120W RMS into 4 ohms)
A1400 (240W RMS into 4 ohms)

These are monoblock amplifiers, both well-suited to driving the X5 Stealthbox. The extra power of the A1400 will net to a 3dB increase in output over the A1200. Either one will be a good choice. You can look at product details for these amplifiers on our website.

Buyers will receive a new (not b-stock amplifier).

ALSO NOTE ON THE FORM IF YOU HAVE a Factory Subwoofer Hardware, or if you would like JL AUDIO To provide you the brackets!

Those wishing to add an amp to their order need to indicate that on their order forms (and which model they want).

The deal is the same as the Stealthbox: 30% off retail, with shipping included.

A1200: regular MSRP $229.95 -30% = $160.96
A1400: regular MSRP $399.95 -30% = $279.97

Buyers may also add a remote bass knob for the amplifier:
RBC-1: regular MSRP $39.95-30%=$27.97

The buck stops here... for anything else they will need to visit their local JL Audio dealer.

Best of Luck,
Ivan!

Just a quick question before I commit.

That's just for the box right? We still have to purchase the sub?

ncx 10-31-2006 09:10 AM

This is for a loaded Stealthbox... i.e. JL sub inlcluded.

Ivan, PM'd and emailed you yesterday.

Cover Mods

X5ive,

Have you considered cutting out the plastic cover? I notice you trimmed the ribs, but what about cutting a 10" circle in the plastic? The outside carpet would still remain...

aus 10-31-2006 06:52 PM

Or drilling some large holes through the plastic. It would be easy if the carpet somes off easily.

Ivan, thanks for the form.

TQ2K 10-31-2006 07:11 PM

Where's the location of the amp on your setup?

X5ive 10-31-2006 07:17 PM

Ivan,
JL Audio tested the system w & w/o the cover and found no difference in performance. I think I'll keep the factory look.

X5ive 10-31-2006 07:43 PM

TQ2K,
My stealthbox is still waiting for some juice.:(
I'm going with the JL audio A1200.
Mounting options:
1st choice: inside the tire well.
2nd choice: on the outside of the drivers side cover opposite the stealthbox.

Hey Hey!!! I've got mine and installed it today! Xfive, looks like I beat you to it, lol. Well part of it anyhow. OK, so I've got pics of the install and instuctions from JL. I'll scan these instructions, upload my install pics and start a thread with my review on this installed set up. Well, i'll do this in between all the trick-or-treaters!

I'm not sure how much this stealth box is but I'll find out when they send the shop the invoice. I'm pretty sure the group buy will save aprox $125.

X5ive 11-01-2006 12:11 AM

Chusteveb:
Congrats! LOL
I Look forward to your review.
Which Sub-Amp did you decide to use?

I'm glade to see the level of excitement and interest. It was fun working with the product development dept. at JL Audio.

what kind of JL sub is included...w2,w3, etc etc...??also i currently have the 12" w6 sub in my truck, can i swap my current sub and just use this stealth box for it?? thanx in advance

aus 11-01-2006 01:30 AM

It's a 4 ohm W1 rated for 150 watts. I doubt it'll be big enough for a W6. Those things are pretty big.

Anyone know how this thing is held in place? I don't see any screws points on the pic.

digitaljok 11-01-2006 01:50 AM

Email and PM sent. So are the units (at least the first 25) ready to be shipped?

Thanks Ivan,

I will get it on order tomorrow. Can someone tell me, is additional amp required, and where can it be mounted?

Thanks,

I Agree...I don't think it will be a problem to get another 25 people

aus 11-01-2006 06:35 PM

Just wanted to thank Ivan for getting this set-up.

As for the second group buy, someone should talk to a dealer and see if they'd be willing to do it. You now have an idea what the whole sale price is likely to be.

Dblock2151 11-04-2006 07:45 AM

I read somewhere that for those of us without the DSP subs, we had to go to the dealer, and pickup the hardware for it? Just wondering if this is true, and if we can get a part number, with price? I just sent my money to JL today, and am hoping to get everything soon. :)

chusteveb 11-04-2006 01:50 PM

That part is a plate that takes the sub box and bolts it to the vehicle. 2 bolts under the sub box mount to the plate and 2 bolts mount the plate to the trunk floor. The sub is also mounted to the vehicle at the top of the box with one bigger bolt.

To be honest, I'm not sure the 2 bolts on the bottom attached to the plate are really that necessay. They are 2 10mm plastic bolts and I didn't torque them down by any means. It does help keep the box in place but this plate could be easily made if the cost at the dealer is too much or not available.

Bottom line, don't sweat it too much. Sorry I don't have a part number nor a cost on it.

Ivan22 11-06-2006 03:51 PM

Mounting Hardware!

Don Vertrees has alerted us to the following issue with the X5 Stealthboxes:
I have become aware that there is some urgency to ship some new X5
Stealthboxes. I have indentified a problem in that those vehicles that
weren't originally equipped with the OEM subwoofer will not have a bracket
that is needed to secure our Stealthbox.

BMW will not sell the OEM subwoofer bracket without the OEM subwoofer, so buying it from BMW is not practical for owners.
To solve this problem we are
perfecting a replacement bracket that will be included in all X5 Stealthbox
kits. I estimate it will take us at least a week to get the material in and
to produce the needed brackets for the 30 or so orders we now have. In the
meantime I would suggest that we call those customers who have pending
orders to find out if their vehicles are equipped with the OEM subwoofer. If
so, we could ship the new Stealthbox to them without the bracket as it will
not be needed.

Please share this with the group buy participants and ask them to indicate whether their X5 has the factory subwoofer or not on their order form as follows:

A) YES, MY X5 HAS A FACTORY SUBWOOFER
B) NO, MY X5 DOES NOT HAVE FACTORY SUBWOOFER

PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT IVAN22 with your answer. IF YOU DID NOT PLACE YOUR ORDER YET, HURRY UP ALREADY AND NOTE YES OR NO FOR MOUNTING BRACKETS.

IF YOU WERE COOL ENOUGH TO ALREADY HAVE SENT IN THE ORDER, SIMPLY CALL IRIS K. in CUSTOMER SERVICE AT (888) JLAUDIO!<!-- / message --><!-- edit note -->

Ivan22 11-06-2006 06:22 PM

Order Status

Q1:
I have a quick question, for those of us who payed already, do we have to wait for the others to pay, and then we'll get them?

Manville at JL Audio:

We will ship them out as soon as we have 16 orders in house and we have the product ready.

Q2:
Is the mounting hardware going to slow down the production? Can you arrange to have the hardware shipped to those who need it separately?

I don't think we'll slow down too much as a result of the bracket issue. I'll know more in the next day or two.

ncx 11-08-2006 03:44 PM

Come on guys, get your orders in to JL Audio immediately or return your form to Ivan. You are holding up the group buy for everyone.

aus 11-09-2006 02:19 AM

Anyone else send in their order? Lets get this over with.
We all drive nice vehicles and a few hundred shouldn't hurt that bad. It only takes 5 minutes to fill out the form.

nespo_x5 11-09-2006 10:06 PM

How do I get the form? I am down to order this... let me know how, thanks everyone...

bsprtsgrp 11-10-2006 01:01 PM

It's my understanding that JL Audio is still waiting on at least 10 of the forms that were included in the special group buy of 25 over two weeks ago. Are there at this moment any of those 25 forms that can be considered available for use by other X5World members?

I am interested in getting a form and ordering a stealthbox TODAY if one is available.

ncx 11-10-2006 04:06 PM

JL Is already shipping to GB customers who do not need brackets. I received mine and the packaging and box construction is first rate like other Stealthbox products. I have not run any frequency sweeps on it yet but look forward to doing so.

Ivan, thanks for taking care of this GB.

Ivan, just give the man/woman a numbered form. The original people have had more than enough time to do this.

Ivan22 11-11-2006 03:18 AM

I will send a group email giving them 3 business days to place the order. If JL Audio does not receive their orders, I will re-issue those forms.
Ivan.

Ivan22 11-11-2006 03:19 AM

Final Notice Email has been sent to those whose FORM has NOT been received by JL Audio. At this point it is fair game. On Wednesday, 11/15/2006, form numbers that have not been received by JL will be reassigned to standby individuals.

So what if you form is in the mail? You have nothing to worry about. JL will receive that form first, and will not process the one that was reassigned.

I do not know anyone at this forum, so this is nothing personal. I think I have been more than fair.

Best of Luck,
Ivan.

Ivan22 11-13-2006 02:30 PM

Order Update:

Iris at JL Audio explained that even though they required 16 initial orders to start mailing them out, they were worried about the demand from their retail stores. Therefore they already started shipping first in first out in order to meet the demand of their retail clients.:)

cpatzer 11-13-2006 05:28 PM

Just got mine. :-) Christmas came early for me this year!!!! I will let you all know how it sounds.

Side note: To those slackers who have not purchased theirs yet. GET a fricken move on! As they say s*&t or get of the pot.

cpatzer 11-14-2006 01:06 AM

I have the sub sucessfully installed. The only real problem I had was threading the factory bolts into the sub enclosure as they seem to have some sort of residue left over from the manufacturing process. I just dug it out with a screw driver. The install notes mention that you should cut the retaining clips off of the padding on the back of the factory cover, these can easily be pulled off with a pair of pliers. You can also pull the plastic raisers off by twisting them with a pair of snub nose pliers instead of filing them off.

I did however run into one major problem. I can find NO PLACE AT ALL to put the amp. I purchased the A1200 in hopes that it would be small enough. I guess that was too much to hope for. Maybe I purchased too many options when I purchased the car.

Does anybody have any ideas? I would really, really like to have the amp hidden.

Thanks,

Christian

Ivan22 11-14-2006 01:34 AM

AMP Location

I will tell you what I will be doing for mine. I plan on making an article, but in the mean time, here is a quick and dirty. Since I have to wait for my Stealthbox, I began the work on the amp wiring.

Remove your spare tire cover. There are black plastic floor fillers to the left of the spare tire. The right side of the spare tire has them also, but they are neat emergency tool holders.

Once you remove the black plastic (bunch of dead space), you will see a rectangular metal bracket welded to the body of the car. Use a torch or a plasma cutter to remove that useless support bracket. Your amp will end up supporting that area. But realistically, how often will you be transporting bricks in your trunk to need all the added support?

That will be my location for the amp. It is very close to the factory amp, near the battery, near the ground terminal of the battery to the frame, and near the sub location. Your system will benefit from short cables and no loss in power. Remeber, current is like water through a hose, the shorter and bigger the hose, the better the flow.

I also placed a half farad capacitor right in front of the fuse terminal (the plastic box with a bunch of red wires distributed from the battery).

On top of all, it is hidden under your floor!

I will post pictures as soon as I am done.

chusteveb 11-14-2006 10:57 AM

Wow, ok! So I'm glad to hear I'm not the only person who had a dificult time trying to clean out the threads in order to get the factory bolts to fit into the stealth box. Also, I too used plyers and twisted off the plastic on the cover.

As to amp placement, did you see where I installed my JL A2150?

It works good for me! Good luck and lets hear of any other suggestions for amp placement!

I've had my stealth box up and playing now for a couple of weeks, I love it!

here's an link to my amp install:

http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...ound-clip.html

TeXfive 11-14-2006 12:03 PM

I was wondering why is this GB not available for X5ers outside US ?

I'm interested in buying this stealthbox so if this "no exception" rule can be broken... I'm in for one !

racerboydrew 11-14-2006 01:03 PM

Are there any forms remaining? If so, I'm in.

cue03 11-14-2006 01:26 PM

I WANT IN!! PLEASE GIVE ME AN OPPORTUNITY..... After listening to my 4.8is at louder volumes today... man it is a must to get rid of that wimpy sub setup.

cpatzer 11-14-2006 01:27 PM

Chusteveb,

Thanks for the link but I am really not into hammering anything in my baby, or cutting with a plasma cutter for that matter. I will probably end up building an amp rack or buying a really small amplifier somewhere else.

Also I don't even know if that would work, as my X5 does not have the sliding cargo hold.

cue03 11-14-2006 04:32 PM

Ivan,

In that attached picture in the first post of this thread, is the rear section cover where the speaker is really see through or is that photochop working there?

I am wondering what others will do for sitting behind such a thick panel.

Also is this solution completely plug and play for removing the old sub combo and putting in this combo? I am hoping there is no heavy lifting like finding wires/connectors, following setups that are super complicated etc.

Lastly, i live very close to JL in fort lauderdale (about 20 min from me). Can I get them to do the install for me?

Curtis

cpatzer 11-14-2006 05:54 PM

Dude it is so easy. If you can turn a screw you can install the sub. It even comes with step by step instructions.

aus 11-15-2006 03:27 PM

Got my sub. Feels solid. THANKS Ivan for setting this up.

otoupalik 11-15-2006 04:03 PM

any ability to get in on this?

thanks

Ivan22 11-15-2006 05:51 PM

Re-assigning remaining slots!

SWITCHING GEARS !!!!!!!!!!!

I SPOKE TO JL AUDIO. They will treat the orders on a first come, first GET basis.

So those who were assigned a form and did not submit it, a copy of your form will be given to a standby member. Once JL fills all 25 group orders, no matter what number form you have, you will not get the group buy. Nothing personal, until the orders are filled, I do not get mine. And I waited the longest out of all of you.
BEST OF LUCK! Ivan.

Guys ( and cool ladies),

I originally assigned 25 forms within 24 hours. Since yesterday, I reassigned additional 8 forms. I hope enough forms will be processed to complete all 25 group buy orders. That is why at this time, I will not issue any more forms and disappoint anyone who does not make it. It is really a shame that this group buy turned into such a mess.

Some original assignments never replied to me, some cancelled, others took their sweet time, and I guarantee at least one will contact me and complain about getting a form but not making it in time for the first 25 orders!

I hope this is the last time you hear from me on this matter.

Ivan.

cpatzer 11-15-2006 05:55 PM

I don't blame you one bit. People that drive a 40k - 73k car should be able to come up with $385 no problem. In this world if you snooze you loose, and if they have sat on their bums this long they deserve to miss out. Here's hoping you get yours soon.

Thanks for all of the trouble. I know I really appreciate what you have done.

RJ151 11-16-2006 04:46 PM

Any ability to get in on this too, Ivan you got mail!

bsprtsgrp 11-17-2006 12:04 AM

I am one of the 8 lucky members who received an order form yesterday and I've mailed mine in already (from Hawaii) to JL Audio:dancing: .

Ivan has been more than patient and deserves a big Mahalo for putting this together.

Xtreme53 11-21-2006 02:39 PM

Thank you, Ivan, for putting the Group Buy together.

I just got a call from JL, they will be shipping out my order today. I was part of the "reassigned additional 8 forms" group. Can't wait to receive the parts. Unfortunately I will have to wait until next Tuesday as UPS is working on their Holiday Schedule.

bsprtsgrp 11-24-2006 09:39 PM

Same here...mine has been shipped but will not arrive until 11/28 because of UPS' holiday schedule.

Question for anyone who has installed thier's already....Did you receive a wiring harness from JL Audio for the AMP?

mrmomoman 11-29-2006 11:19 AM

Ivan,

I know that you said you won't issue any more forms. But I spoke to Iris K. - Could you please send me one? I am sorry that you had such a mess with this group buy. Can someone send me a form that they recieved?

Iris K. at JL asked me to ask you or someone for a form to get an order.

Thank you for any asssistance.

I am new to the board and wasn't aware of this section until yesterday.

otoupalik 11-29-2006 12:28 PM

I have one I can send to you, just need your email address.

Thanks
Brad

mrmomoman 11-29-2006 10:44 PM

Brad,

Thank you I got one from Ivan today and ordered it from Iris. I got the A1400 Amp and bass knob.

I heard it sounds real good. I live in ATL, GA where Micah from BSW has his shop but they wanted about $550 or so just for the box without amp.

I thought this would be a better deal and I would get what I was looking for in a stealth look.

Thanks again for the help!!
