Installing Angel Eyes in a 2000 - 2002 BMW X5
Follow these steps to first to remove the light assemblies from the vehicle - http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-63.html

Once the headlights are out, place them on a clean work surface.

Follow these steps to open up the headlight assembly - http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-255.html, or follow the guidelines below:

Using a heat gun (doesn't need to be an expensive fancy one), direct the heat to the weather strip / glue (black), keeping the heat gun approximately 8-10cm from the surface. The weather strip will get soft quite fast.

Soften the weather strip on one side of the headlight and then start to
bend in the edge using 2 flat screwdrivers or small paint scrapers. When the front-glass has
come loose (1-2 cm out from the headlight), start on the other side.
Finally, heat the side where you find the turn signal and loosen it. Carefully separate the unit from the lense.

Tips: a good method is to have one person wearing think gloves and working the headlight while a friend operates the heat gun. Using screwdrivers may damage the edge when the pressure gets quite
hard on a small surface (will not be visible).

When you go to re-install the front-glass, heat the weather strip
around the headlight (the weather strip should shine) and mount the
glass back, holding the glass while the weather strip dries. Also, get some marine sealing (black) or silicon to seal the headlight in the edge when you are done.

If you are wanting to completely eliminate the amber from the lenses you have two options. One is to completely leave out the pastic lense pieces. Those look like this once installed:

Another option is to trim off the amber portion of the insert, which is part of the beveled clear piece. Using a dremel, you can trim off the amber portion and put the clear part back in . Simply use
a few drop's of hot glue to secure them. Those look like this once installed:
