why o why :(

On my way out to Stony Brook for my cousin's 30th bday party i saw a White X5 3.0 with a .... get this.... sit down... an //M badge on the hatch lid... :(

what the hell is wrong with people? who do they think they're fooling? all the Honda guys? trust me... they know the difference too.

I wanted to make the loser pull over and bitch slap him for being such a poseur.

Friends don't let friends rebadge their cars...

Juanted 06-04-2005 11:54 PM

Well, maybe he IS fooling the Honda guys... BMW aficionados will know better, though...

Some people feel they need to add the little extra "spark" to make the car stand out...And make bad judgement..In this case, VERY bad judgement...

As for tasteless, I saw an X in London last week, and it made me want to puke...This idiot had what MUST have been 23" Chrome spinners on the thing, and NOTHING else...I mean, no other goodies, so it just looked the guy was trying to make his X look more expensive?

I mean, WHY?! 100 grand for one of those things over here, (literally) and he puts an extra 5 on it to make it ugly...And what you guys will REALLY not believe, is that X's COME with type 132's over here!! AARRGHHH!!!

Dblock2151 06-05-2005 04:05 AM

Was it Topaz Blue with an Aero Kit? If it was, then it was my cousin.

(I've told him many times to take it off, but he doesn't listen) :tsk:

He says it was white X5. Not on a 3.0. And this is not much different from those who remove 3.0 badge after putting the 4.8 kit so that they can pass off as 4.8. Someday a Tourag or base Cayenne driver wil make their X look bad and think that he beat a 4.8.

I'm against it whether you spent a ton or not. I mean since a Z8 costs sooo much should you slap an M badge on it? I say if you want a ///M, buy one they come with the badges :)

LeMansX5 06-05-2005 02:00 PM

Well the Z8 does not come in 3 flavors ranging in price difference of over $30k, so I don't think its the right comparison. In my opinion putting an ///M badge on Z8 is degrading its value as it more expensive than any ///M.

So, its OK for a 3.0 or 4.4 X5 owner to put a 4.6 or 4.8 kit but its not OK for a 4.6 or 4.8 owner to put an ///M badge.

Personally, I don't care what somebody does with their car as long as it makes them happy. Its their car anyway.

chipx5 06-05-2005 02:03 PM

:iagree: But it might still look like $hit!

Curious Joel 06-05-2005 02:10 PM

Rebadging is dumb.. I saw 4.6 badges on a 3.0 in Boston... It didn't even have a 4.6 exhaust or anything, and it had the base 17" wheels. There's like a 1991 Toyota Camry around here with "SUPERSTREET" decals on the back window and fake wire wheels, and a spoiler that looks like someone ripped the wing of a 747 or something.

LeMansX5 06-05-2005 02:18 PM

BMW is going to put a ///M badge on X5 and X3 so that people don't have to.

Unfortunately in this country people have the right to be stupid! If people want to drive around lookoing like idiots (which happens alot) it's their choice. :loser2:

Who ever said it was good for a 3.0 or 4.4 guy to "upgrade" badges :dunno:

4.6is Ryder 06-05-2005 04:15 PM

I agree to a degree with you guys. First, the person that's making the payments should do whatever he or she wants. We all have our opinions about the subject. I've personal owned a ///M and seeing a 3 series with ///M badging was almost an insult to the brand. I've owned a 4.4i that was just fine without ///M badging. I currently own a X5 that is designated by BMW as a 4.6is X5 (M)....so yes I think it's cool to add a ///M badge. It's not a ploy to fool anyone.
I think that de-badging a 3.0 or a 4.4 and adding a 4.6 or 4.8 body kit is a ploy to fool the non BMW owner. But remember, at the end of the day, it's their X !!!................Phil

B-Line 06-05-2005 04:32 PM

I have mixed feelings on the subject. Why do I care what some guy chooses to do to his car. Real enthusiasts will know the difference, the ones who don't probably don't know what a ///m car is anyway.

Secondly, I like debadged cars, always have. If I wasn't afraid of doing damage to my 4.8is, I would debadge immediately. I just like that euro, clean look.

Lastly, as many of you know, I am a Pcar owner. I get my balls busted all the time by a friend because, I own a Carrera 2S. Not that he doesn't like the Carrera 2, he loves it. But he feels the 2S is a poser car.
The reason is, the 2S is the TURBO body, TURBO wheels, TURBO S aerokit, on the naturally aspirated 911. Porsche does this sometimes when they have left over body's. So, some people call it a TURBO LOOK. I personally love the TURBO LOOK. I love the big fat ass and the ground stance of the vehicle. But I have been called a "wannabe"
- Now just by coincidence, the original owner of the car who spec'd the vehicle prior to purchase, ordered the vehicle with a code, NO BADGE FROM FACTORY. So my car (from the factory) does not have the CARRERA S badge on it, further making it look like a turbo.
So, am I supposed to go out and buy and install a CARRERA S BADGE FOR CAR??? AND, I like the look of the car better without the badge. Now to some people, I guess that makes me a poser. But I don't care what they think, I love my car, the looks, the cleanliness, etc.
- I know this is different than if I had installed a TURBO badge on the car, but hey, everyone is entitled to do as they please. If I see some guy in a 3.0 with a ///M badge, I will laugh my ass off. But it wouldn't surprise me if some 993 Turbo owners passed me and started laughing thinking I was trying to pose as a Turbo car with a NA engine !!..

just my .02

Also agree with B-line. A real enthusiast will know anyway.

I am talking about the 4.6/4.8 body kit, not the badges. When a 3 or 4.4 owner puts a 4.8 body kit and removes the 3 or 4.4 badge, hardly any one objects.

As I said I don't care, its their car, and for the record I do not have a ///M badge on my 4.8 either.

dsheli 06-05-2005 06:22 PM

I don't like it when people take the X5 and 3.0 ,4.4, 4.8 badges off. That bothers the hell out of me. Anyone agree?

5Xwen 06-05-2005 08:55 PM

IMO there is nothing wrong with debadging a car, however, you are a poser if you rebadge to something you don't own. But hey - do whatever makes you happy.

:withstupi De-badging it is one thing. Falsely re-badging it is another thing...
