the 1 decision to punt did not lose the game for the beagles, and neither did the refs.... they just got beaten by a better team today.

I couldn't believe a pass happy coach like Reid didn't go for it b/c they made a lot of big plays throughout the year. also, you don't know that the Saints woulda just run the ball although conventional wisdom would lead you believe they would have. Sean Payton's team led the NFL in passing and may have called for a pass if necessary. They also knew that a 1st down puts it out of reach. Reid even second guessed himself afterwards in the press conference. He'll be crucified all offseason for that decision with many calling for his head.

not even the clueless media is questioning reid's call. 4th and less than 5 is converted approx 50% of the time. probability goes way down 10yds or more, and obviously keeps getting worse the longer the distance. coaches are paid to play the percentages. additionally, had the eagles not converted the 4th down, the saints could have gained less than 10yds and kicked a FG, and forcing the eagles to have to score a TD with whatever time was left. imo, this is football 101 stuff. i played D-1 football.

Wow, both the teams going into the playoffs with the best records LOST.

dr.jay 01-14-2007 10:08 PM

Eagles would have never made the playoffs if McNabb didnt get injured

Wagner 01-14-2007 10:33 PM

you are correct sir.

Old dead story, but I wanted to throw my $0.02 anyway. I cannot believe everything I felt about the game is being echoed by the media. I don't think that ever happens. It all did not come down to the punt. As much as I would have rather seen them go for it, the punt was simply the final nail in the coffin. Think through the whole game and you will notice many things that cost the Birds the game on Saturday... yeah, I'm still sad about it.

3 dropped balls by Westbrook
Young's penalties at crucial moments, BOTH negating 1st downs (one forcing the 4th and 15 punt).
Jones penatly for illegal hit after 5 yds
Missed holding call by the ref setting up a Saints TD
Missed illegal block in the back by the refs
Poor spot of Westbrooks run resulting in 2nd and 1
Not converting 2nd and 1 or 3rd and 1

Both teams played well... but the Saints running OWNED the Eagles D :(
