IceLink problem :(
 

Ok well my other thread I was trying to find the 12v wire which I ended up using the white one because it goes on and off with the key. Anyway, when I plugged the IceLink in ONLY to the cd changer harness, the thing started to get really really hot I don't know why.....I ended up putting the whole thing together and it never worked. This was for my uncles X5 btw....I put the IceLink in my 1996 328i and it works perfectly fine. The X5 has DSP, this whole thing is a PITA, anyone have any ideas why it won't work at all?

The ice>Link will run warm, this is the heatsink doing its job. How hot was the module getting?

It was getting pretty hot, *almost* enough to burn my hand....but if that means its working, then how come the car won't recognize it? Do I have to disconnect the battery to make it recognize it? Thanks!!

The ice>Link Plus will run warm, not hot. I would recommend removing the module from the vehicle and sending the module back to be replaced under warranty.

the thing is though, when I plugged it into my car again, it works fine, doesn't get hot or anything, is the wiring different in the X5? also do I have to disconnect the battery when installing the icelink? thanks.

Your wiring wouldn't be any different than other X5s. Disconnecting the battery is always recommended when installing the ice>Link or DICE kits to allow proper reinitialization.

Oh one more thing, the X5 as dsp but there was no cable connected to it when i removed the side panel. Also there is no 6pin cable to be found anywhere, does there have to be one or is it only with non-DSP vehicles?

I will need to know the year of your X5. Also, what are you referring to as "it"?

Yea by it I meant the amp....in the link you have there is a cable going to the DSP, my uncles X5 didn't have that cable....

If you don't have that cable present, the DSP converter is not needed - however I still need your model year. Feel free to contact me by phone and I'll be happy to explain in detail.
