This confirms the rumour that V31 had some problems !! It will be interesting to see what nav system they have updated...

ccfj1 06-09-2008 03:08 PM

Indeed, I've had no problems so far other than nav system reboots because the navboot file was to large, (now sorted).

Wonder what the bugs are??

Well done jochen, over a 1000 posts :)

Bugs: I heard rumours about graphics driver problems, but they are unsubstantiated by myself or my friends....

lupito_ct 06-13-2008 01:07 PM

I have V32.
For MK3 and MK4 any update is available.
Only have updates for NAVI01,02,03 for E65 :)

Well done jochen, over a 1000 posts :)

I'm having lots of problems with 2008/1 and v31 not seen with previous versions. I've customised the DVD to include full UK post codes and v31 to include my own splash screen and a few other minor navtweak changes (same changes that I've made since v27)

Issues:

v31 seems much slower to start-up and to read the nav disk. Changes to scale take about twice as long as before to redraw the screen maps. A directed journey sometimes crashes - the maps continue to be drawn correctly as is the position of the car but the direction instructions (visual and spoken) and the ETA etc are all lost. Reboot via ignition solves this.

I suspect there may be issues reading single layer DVD's (we know v31 includes dual layer support) but could be anything I suppose.
Cleaning the DVD or reverting to an older 2007 version (all backup copies) makes no difference.

Anyone have v32 yet?

ccfj1 06-17-2008 03:23 AM

hmm, I've not seen any problems and am running the same as you (2008-1 + v31, both modded).

When you modded the v31 did the navboot file become bigger as a result of the changes, this is what caused me problems, once I'd reduced the modded pics (gif +jpg) to the same size as the OEM pics, then the problem (system reboots) went away.

As for the bugs you have, mine if anything "seems" a little quicker when booting and the scale changes are almost instant, I've used the direction instructions (visual and spoken) and had no problems, and the ETA has been fine.

I suspect that it could be that the OS upgrade has made the reading of the backup a little more prone to any inconsistencies in the map disc.

Things to try;
Drop back down to v29/v30 (and see if things improve)
Try a different media type for the map disc
Get hold of an OEM map disc (cd or dvd, they will both work).

Not tried v32 yet, so can't comment.

Yes, but I then replaced the mini splash screen with a much smaller file to get it back to same size - diffence is 10's of bytes only.
Is there anything else I can do to reduce size other than change my (smallish) splash and icons?

I agree - that was my thinking based on feedback on other forums.

I have used the same DVD writer, phillips DVD-R's and UltraISO for all changes for 2 years without any probs until v31. The 2008-01 is the first DVD I've used with the full UK postcode set as a POI resource. This fills the DVD close to the limit and may be causing errors at extremities.

I think I'll order a new OEM 2008-02 whilst the half price offer is still in place and give the MKIV a clean - air con seems to cause lots of dust which get pulled onto the DVD.

Thanks for the advice.

UPDATE: Working now, must have been a account setup thing, OK, logged in and working, but can't see the link for the download, I've had a look in the navigation + navigation/software forums but no link (my spanish is very limited BTW) lol.

OK, good start, if you have changed the sky and pointers (I have) then you may need to do a bit of jiggery pokery to get the file sizes down.
but 10 bytes should not affect the navboot file at all.

hmm, could be but mine also has the 7digit PCS, and I have other stuff on there too, pizza hut, ATM's etc, no problems.

Anyone know how to get the downloads. I've tried IE and Firefox but can't find any links to the files?

asot 06-18-2008 01:07 AM

Sorry mate, the same for me, no DOWNLOAD buttons or links at the SPanish site...

Angelych 06-18-2008 09:14 AM

Spanish download section is only for club members, but don't worry there is not the original version but only v32 changed completely in Spanish.
That is not good for other languages.

You must be right since it's just been exactly 3 months since v31 was announced.

No problems here, though I am still using a 2005.1 map DVD...

Maybe I can finally get a tweaked disc to work when we get v32, I tweaked a v31 (splash screen, few other minor changes) and it wouldn't load =(

I appreciate that. I thought I took all of the correct steps, but obviously I did something wrong. When I inserted a non-hacked v31 she loaded right up...

I purchased NAV OS V32 from the BMW dealership but there's no change for my NAV Unit. If anyone wants it, i'll sell for $20.00 including S&H. Send payment to my paypal ID [email protected]. I will ship as soon as the payment is received. See this link for more details http://www.xoutpost.com/navigation-sy...n-v32-sib.html
Thanks.

Make sure OS disc is error free by MEASURING it
Do a surface scan and check surface is OK
Measure C1 and C2 errors and make sure they are 0 or nearly 0

In my mind, you should reinstall only V31...
V32 often makes boot defect...it was create especially for 7 series...I tried on my mk4 and immediately I had troubles...
I hint you get some old version, such as V29, downgrade your mk4 with that version and than reupgrade to V31, NOT V32
If you wanto to change your old splashscreen here V31 with various screen posts #98 e #104 and here as well, you can find some my screens on V31

For a Mk4 V31 and V32 are identical.
It makes no difference which one you use.

Threms 11-09-2008 01:09 PM

OK, thanks, ill try to install a v 28 or 29 in a few dayes, but how do i reboot it so i can get on whith it at the time being?

Threms 11-14-2008 12:02 PM

It works whith 29 (up till now)

Thanks

edco 12-20-2008 02:02 AM

What goes in first?

So at the risk of being a bit THICK as my British mum in law would say...I have V31 downloaded but not yet installed. I have an 06 with an MkIV. Should I remain at V29, move to V31, or if it aint broke, dont worry about fixing it.?

I also bought the 08-1 Nav disk which I havent installed yet either.

And lastly, I have a custom startup "splash" screen (small) that a fellow X5 world friend made for me which I haven't installed yet either..

Should I install the V31 first, the Nav update, the custome splash screen or does it matter which one goes first..?

Thank you and Happy Holidays
Ed in NJ

X5 Meister 12-20-2008 10:06 AM

Leave it alone. You will see no improvements with the Nav versions. The 2009 Nav disk however has a huge number of improvements.

the 2009 disk will work with OS prior to V31? it's Single Layer? If so I might just leave mine at 27.1.

thx
