Terrible news this - from all I have seen of him on tv over the years and read he has always semmed a genuine all round nice bloke and total petrolhead.

Genuinely upset to hear of this last night.

Working at moment so quick post with links for anyone interested Pistonheads thread running at 36 pages amazing amount of support

Rapidly growing donations thread for air ambulance trust that took him from the scene - Please donate and/or spread the word if you see fit link from here

More information on TG website here

This site says he suffered serious brain injuries. So I don't think that we'll see him on TV ever again sadly.

I'm no doctor but I wouldn't say that to be the case. Will it all not just depend on what part of his brain was damaged. Like once recovered it good be the case that it may be his memory that will suffer.

Any doctors who can give more insight.

Well you're probably right. I mean the severity and possible disability will depend on what section of the brain was damaged, and in what way. However, as soon as I hear anything about a spine, I assume wheelchair, and anytime I hear about a brain, I assume mental or other disability. I'm just really scared of that kind of stuff...I mean all the stuff you see on TV and such maybe adds to my fear. I wish this man to be well of course, and to recover as fully as possible.

Hopefully the miracles of modern medicine will prevail and allow Hammands to make a complete recovery.

Peter Gammons of ESPN suffered a very serious brain aneurism earlier this year; he returned just this week to writing his weekly columns for the ESPN baseball website and should back on the air shortly, after what was apparently a very tough but successful recovery from his illness.

You are quite right, Scottie. I have seen some bad injuries that resolved with minimal residual effects. Since we don't really know what is wrong with him, I can't make any prognosis in this case.

man, i'm truly saddened by this it's amazing how attached one can get to people they don't even personally know ... and to think he has a wife and two young children ... here's hoping we'll hear some positive news in the coming days/weeks....
