Dave Matthews sucks!
I had heard that the CD was copy protected but this is ridiculous. I can't enjoy my CD that is a legit copy on my computer and can't put my CD on my iPod. There are ways around this mess and supposedly it's easier for Mac users but I should not have to do a bunch of computer gymnastics in order to listen to a CD that I have every right to enjoy on my computer and my iPod. I'm not reproducing it to sell at a swap meet or eBay. I'm holding a legit copy that cost good money and I am restricted from how I am to listen to it. I don't know if it's about money, intellectual property (= money), or special deals the band made with Napster (= money) but it sucks. And to think that Dave Matthews is such a screamin' liberal. I knew society was going to Hell in a handbasket as soon as we moved from vinyl to CD's.

I don't think it is easier to copy it on the Mac. The CD is "copy-protected", but there are ways around this....(DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK)
Look at your CD....you can see a faint difference in coating....There is a music section and a data section. The data section is towards the outside of the CD.... Well, when you put the CD on your computer, it reads the data section first and tells the computer that it is not readable. So, if you block the outer section (I used a couple of small pieces of the 3M stick-em post and blocked the outer section), then when the computer tries to read the outer section, it can't and then instead it will recognize the music section. Then you can import it or rip it on iTunes. Some people use permanent ink marker and block out that section. BTW, I have had to do this on some of the newer CDs so I can have the songs on my iPod and it works. I mean, I paid good $$$ for these CDs and why can't I back them up or transfer it to my iPod? Is the DMB CD made by Sony? I notice this alot with some of the Sony produced CDs. Quote:

I have mixed feelings...
As much as I am sorry that you can't copy your cd onto your cpu or even play it for that matter, I do think the music industry needs to do this in order to stay alive. - The reason for this can squarely be blamed on those who have stolen music, (we are probably all somewhat guilty of this..) but the financial hardships the industry is induring must be prevented somehow. - Now you might not feel bad for the "rockstar" who is making 1/4 of what they used to because of copyright theft but you are not on the receiving end of their license checks either. - I for one hope the entertainment industry finds a way to STOP all intellectual property theft even if it is an inconvience in some way. It will not be long before feature legnth films can easily be downloaded at full quality and stolen in masses, bootlegs are already doing significant damage. - If this does happen, at the end of the day, the people who get hurt most are the consumers. Why you ask? because if corporations have to divert funds to stop theft or face ever decreasing revenues, the quality of the content will suffer. So much money needs to be spent on marketing, fulfillment, etc. that if the system gets screwed up, it will effect the content and the quality of the media we so wish to enjoy.. Sorry, but as a future filmmaker of America (hopefully) all entertainment theft should try to be stopped with whatever means neccessary. Theft is theft, no matter if it is xenon bulbs on your X5 or the music or movie someone has slaved over for the past 5-10 years.. B

Seems like technology is advancing faster than our copyright laws.
I agree that it is WRONG to steal music. However, one should be able to transfer the music to your iPod. A solution is get your music via iTunes and then you can download it to the iPod and make a backup of your music. No more CDs. Quote:

I don't like the new CD's with copy protection either. But before anyone complains tell us what's the alternative? Should an artist get paid for his work? Or should we be free to copy his work any way we like? Whats the answer?
