Arrow Blu-ray besting its high-def DVD rival

Of the high-definition discs consumers bought in the first quarter, 70 percent were Blu-ray Disc and 30 percent were HD DVD, according to sales figures provided by trade publication Home Media Magazine.

Blu-ray really looks great on 1080P compared to HD.

Blu-ray looks awesome. The onyl thing I worry about it is Sony making stupid ass decisions regarding royalties and/or adult content.

As a barometer of the home video system the adult film industry is the mark

We knew DVD was here to stay when adult DVD titles outsold thier VHS counterparts

The fact that HD-DVD is in bed with the adult film industry (pun definately intended) makes it a bit more difficult to say bluray will win out long term

Remember Beta was the better format as well

Just picked up a High Definition Camcorder last weekend. Next on the list is a Blu-Ray burner and player. My projector and TV already plays HD content. The picture quality on the HD camcorder is STUNNING!

Yeah SG, but all your porn stuff is on HD-DVD and I bet you, that out of the 30% sales of HD-DVD, a majority is for WWW!!

That was a valid argument when Beta went against VHS. VHS got the adult film industry on their side. However with the Internet, porn...if you want it...is far more accessible then buying a 'dvd' of it.

It is still a common barometer in the Consumer electorincs industry internet porn or not that is how MANY manufacturers view it...you can tell me all you want that it is no longer valid but as a consumer electronics buyer over the last 10 years for a distirbutor that does about 50M a year I think I know what I am talking about.

Below is why it is a good gauge

Some $4.28 billion worth of adult videos were sold or rented in 2005, according to Adult Video News. About 1 billion adult videos were rented in 2005. And statistics show that there is affluence among porn aficionados. Some 35% of them have incomes over $75,000. That's enough to buy a high-def DVD player or two.

I have a 65inch 1080p plasma. I can tell you this, blu-ray dvd's look nothing less than amazing.

As far as the adult world goes, they have not embraced any one format yet. Quite the contrary, they are using both (so i've heard.)

I just did a google search and apparently, the first adult bluray dvd has been released.. Debbie Does Dallas again.

So, the adult world has not come to a uninamous decision. If I were a betting man, I would put my money on Blu-ray.. Why? I think it's has better branding (with those cool blue cases...) vs. HDDVD with those magenta boxes.. Bluray just appeals more to the immediate senses.. and don't forget about the PS3
