Here's today's poll...

Does your state have an attractive license plate?

I thought of this today when I was stuck in traffic surrounded by Massachusetts residents heading home after a weekend in NH, and I realized that Mass has a pretty ugly license plate.

Anyway, here's NH's plates. The first one is the normal plate, the second one is the wetlands conservation plate. My brother, my mom, and I all have the normal plate, my dad has the moose plate.

Michigan's "standard" blue plate is boring

, but I like the "Great Lakes Splendor" version. MI also has a ton of "specialty" plates - http://sosntsl01.sos.state.mi.us/plates/

NC has the motto of "First in Flight," which is a big point of contention with folks from Ohio (and rightfully so, I might add). They just came here because of the wind. They were not from here, nor did they design or build the plane here. They just... flew it here. The state of NC was not first in flight. The state of NC just happened to be the location where two guys from Ohio came to fly their plane. Anyway...

SC is also a boring, run-of-the-mill plate with the state motto "Smiling Faces, Happy Places," or some lame thing like that. Nothing special about either plate, really.

New hampshire should raise their sales tax by a fraction of a penny and rebuild the old man of the mountain.

(i know, it has nothing to do with license plates, but i was talking about this last week with a co-worker who was headed up to NH and planned on stopping to see the old man. unfortunately she didn't know that gravity won that battle and it's no more)

Our governor at the time (Craig Benson, a colossal failure) formed a team to look into rebuilding it... I don't know why. I never heard anything about that so I guess they decided not to. There are plenty of things they could spend their money on that would make a heck of a lot more sense than rebuilding a rock formation, IMO. Still, it would be nice to have it back. Now all our state route signs are out of date (they are in a box and on the left side it has the profile of the Old Man.)

Florida's tag isn't too horrible, but I like the patriotic flavor of the tag in my "home" state of Alabama.

Of course, every state has multiple (dozens, in some states) customized variants, supporting schools, causes, and issues.

I like my plate just fine

We (US spec owners in the UK) have a really hard time because the "Euro" plates are rectangular and look better.. Unfortunately, we "stick out" because we have to configure the plates to be "square" to fit US Spec cars..Not to mention they are boring as hell!!

And if you want a personalized one, forget it.

My "old" E46 BTW...

That's 1911.

Euro-like 1912.

1921 - they started embossing them now.

1933 - yellow as peeeee.

1937 - red like a diplomat's face after they are called back.

1966 - starting to use today's colors.

Penn-like plate.

Today you get them with any logo you want on the left, or in the center. Ones with logo come with 6 characters and standard ones with 7 (4 letters and 3 numbers).
