On the nightshift with the FDNY

LAst night about 100a.m. tone alarms go off for a auto extrication on the belt pkwy westbound near farmers blvd. we get to the scene to find a 2000 civic coupe wrapped around a tree. Boggan and I grab the jaws of life and the cutters, we get working on the drivers side door and the roof. we open the door to find a phased out driver about nineteen and his girlfriend in the passenger side seat. the impact was on the passenger side and the door was pushed into the side of the girl up to the center console. Poor girl had a huge laceration from the side of her lip to her ear with teeth on her chest and blood everywhere. She looked like a fish out of water gasping for air and unconscious. We pulled her on the back board and the boyfriend and they went to the hospital. She later died of internal damage in the or. young driver was found to be drinking and driving. When will these kids learn.....probably never, time always repeats what the generations before have done already.

That's horrible. I wouldn't be able to do what you do on a daily basis. In fact, I would never want to see something like that.

I've seen this firsthand too. I have numerous friends who would be dead had it not been for something stupid like an argument that kept them out of someone's car. People are stupid, but its not just kids. The 45-year old woman next door is frequently seen nursing a bottle of white zin all morning then will toddle over to the country club around 1 for lunch.

That's sad. He threw his life away for a minute of stupidity. He has to deal with knowing he killed her and will probably have plenty of time alone in a cell to dwell on it. What a waste.

Ouch... didn't expect to read that one of them died at the end... was it a collision with another car? They put others in danger too by drinking and drive. Selfish bastards..

One time took a punch in the face from a friend for taking his keys when he was wayyyy too drunk to drive. Damn near broke my nose. He felt so bad the next morning that we never had to have that discussion ever again. They may be pissed that night but I doubt anyone the next day would say " dude, you're such a dick for trying to save my life"

Tragic. Will they charge the driver with manslaughter?

That happened here recently with a guy who was going way too fast on his motorcycle, wiped out and killed his GF who was a passenger.

sad to hear when passengers suffer the consequences of a driver being stupid. he will be haunted of the fact that out of his actions, he killed someone he supposedly care about.

thats maybe 5 minutes from where i live. although you said they were drunk.. i could never understand how people get into accidents at that time of th night. that road is usually clear at that time.

i drive bus for a living and some thing you see out there for young kids.
yesterday i was pulling out of a bus stop on a one way small street. these 2 kids in civis were blazing down theroad just so they dont end up behind my bus.
