Separated at Birth: Kanye West and Joe Wilson?

Is Kanye West the Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) of the music world?

Separated at Birth: Kanye West and Joe Wilson?

Last night's ill-mannered interruption of Taylor Swift's VMA acceptance speech was eerily reminiscent of last week's similarly unwelcome outburst from Wilson during President Obama's health care address to a joint session of Congress. So what does that say about us?

West hasn't let a VMA broadcast slip by for the past few years without somehow forcing a Kanye moment. And Sunday's full-scale invasion of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech had the ring of a premeditated -- and pathetic -- play for publicity (and ratings) on a network that has expanded its stable of jackasses to include Sasha Baron Cohen, whose Bruno character was crudely lowered onto Eminem's face to much fanfare in June. (An incident the network later admitted was staged.)

While West's storming of the stage may not have been scripted so much as allowed to happen, the moment joins Wilson's now infamous "You lie" as what The Post's Dana Milbank described as another low for the "nation's rapidly deteriorating discourse." And while the humiliation of a 19-year-old country star is hardly as momentous as blatant disregard for the office of the president, both incidents are the result of a society in which shouting down those with whom we disagree. Call it the Glenn Beck-ization of America or an erosion of civility. Either way, it stinks.

What a nancy-boy ...

I have to give Obama credit - he didn't storm off in a hissyfit. I think he handled it rather well. Something everyone could learn from.

Beyond all that, how classy is Beyonce', for essentially rebuking West, and gracefully giving Swift her moment? Toward the end of the show, when B won an award, instead of taking the time for herself, she called Taylor Swift out from backstage and asked her to take the time to give the thanks that West so rudely cut off.

First of all, Kanye West is a Democrat. Joe Wilson is a Republican. Both did have outburst about their disagreement that was inappropriate...

I understand about how this generation appears to have a lack of civility, but I do not understand what Glenn Beck has to do with it. You can sit in the middle and see people on both side of the political spectrum being uncivil. MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News all have their issues with either side of the political spectrum.

Also, it is okay to be heard and protest. I guess if you are on the other side of protest political, it is not fun getting a taste of their own medicine.

The previous 8 years, we have had many people on the left protest just as loudly and rudely. Including protestors during our soliders' funerals to people in Code Pink...

Not to defend Glenn Beck, but he has spoken out not only against Obama and his policies, but also Bush and his policies in the past. He just calls like he sees it. If other people happen to agree with him, then so be it.

However, lest not forget on how this country was started and its founding principles which are now in question by many people these days.

I agree that Joe Wilson was wrong for his outburst as much as Kanye West was for hijacking Taylor Swift's acceptance speech.

What stinks is corruption in Washington DC and if you don't see it or understand it, then you are part of it.

The Kanye incident was staged. You can bet on it.

If it was, Taylor Swift was not in on it. Kanye should feel like an ass. In his impromptu protest he says that Beyonce had one of the best music videos of all time...then Beyonce goes on to win Video of the Year and gives the stage (back) to Taylor Swift. How ironic.

No one would be discussing the VMA's if it weren't for this incident.
