Unfortunately, that appears to be true...

During a CNBC interview on Monday, President Obama called hip-hop artist Kanye West a "jackass" over his behavior at the MTV Video Music Awards. (Watch video of Kanye at the VMAs here.)

Obama's colorful remark was actually made in an off-the-record portion of the interview that was tweeted -- and then deleted -- by ABC News reporter Terry Moran.

"Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a 'jackass' for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT'S presidential," Moran wrote.

Politico's Michael Calderone has ABC's statement apologizing for Moran's journalistic breach.

Actually, there was plenty of memorable moments, revelations, and a tribute to MJ by Madonna that occurred that were quite noteworthy...what Kanye did (wasn't staged) simply overshadowed the other events. A classy act by Beyonce to right the wrong.

"The Insider" video of his backstage tirade, while just as tasteless, was a separate incident. Kanye had said he wouldn't do this again after past backlash...however, concerning this incident, i believe he's become all too comfortable with certain MTV brood and didn't quite think this one through...and i'm sure that bottle of cognac didn't help

Obama: Kanye Is A "Jackass"

Good to see he's concentrating on the important things.

The MJ tribute and Jay-Z's performance of Empire State of Mine were pretty good, imo.

kanye west is just a narcissistic & spoiled brat who never learned proper manners, plus he's a rasist. Pulled a similar tantrum when he did not win "best new artist" a few years ago, believe he lost to Carrie Underwood?

First comment I've seen indicating that he has the power to form his own opinion... Sucks its about something so petty.

C'mon...a racist? And spoiled by whom? How do you arrive at that? Many things he is but a racist and spoiled he isn't. Not making excuses for the guy but when one comes from very humble beginnings and suddenly become rich, often times they lose themselves and a sense of reality, becoming a completely different person/character.

The voting process of numerous award shows have been questionable in the industry for some time now, Kanye just tastelessly says out loud what many are thinking. There was also a number of boos and heckling going on amongst other artists, but due to the broadcast delay, and especially after Kanye's rant, they were cut from the feed.

Personally, i believe Kanye needs to step away from the biz for some time and allow himself to heal/mourn the sudden passing of his mother. I don't believe he allowed himself to do so...instead burying himself into his work and the demanding projects of other artists.

This is at least the 2nd time that I recall. Remember the time he opined that Sgt. Crowley "acted stupidly".
