The voting process of numerous award shows have been questionable in the industry for some time now, Kanye just tastelessly says out loud what many are thinking. There was also a number of boos and heckling going on amongst other artists, but due to the broadcast delay, and especially after Kanye's rant, they were cut from the feed.

Personally, i believe Kanye needs to step away from the biz for some time and allow himself to heal/mourn the sudden passing of his mother. I don't believe he allowed himself to do so...instead burying himself into his work and the demanding projects of other artists.
but that's just what you did! "not making excuses for the guy" - I'm just making the same claim you would if someone blew his cool over a black hip-hop artist beating a white CW artist in some music category - when the reverse is true, it's not racist? So it's alright for a black to yell out his opinion, but not a white (Rep. Wilson)? Beyonce' got her due, and showed class and manners Kanye has yet to learn. the crowd clearly felt his "opinion" was not the "opinion" of the crowd or the voters, despite your assumption, "what many are thinking". The lame excuse that sudden riches allows someone to be something other than a "normal" polite, well mannered person, just does not float. Money, like power, often shows the true nature of a person. In Kanye's case, arrogant, ill-mannered, spoiled child, and racist all fit.

Firstly, if you notice i did not include the political analogy, you did, i won't draw a parallel between a serious political matter and a music video celebration. I made zero excuses for the guy so please go back and read my statement. My comment was based on working the event, being there in the flesh and pointed out events not aired.

Secondly, basing your allegation of him being a racist because of his action at the VMA's and similar antics is absolutely ridiculous. These antics and protests have been happening for years if you follow such events. So everyone who rudely stormed a stage in the past to protest a nod or win by someone of another color is a racist?! ...seriously? that's your basis?

Lastly, yes, the format and voting processes have definitely become questionable over the years. It's not an assumption but a fact and common knowledge of the industry...there were several other awards announced that were not met with due fanfare at this particular event. There are many reasons for broadcast delay, apart from the obvious.

Well...you said "not making excuses for the guy", but then you mentioned him going from rags to riches and the fact that the voting process for award shows were flawed, so you sort of did.

Well i certainly expected you to chime in...you take a fraction of several points and make up your mind. The rags to riches analogy is not an excuse but factual in many cases...my comments were simply an attempt to paint a full picture to those on this forum that are aware of Kanye by means of either this antic or what they hear and read. My degree of separation is possibly much closer with the person in question than with most on this forum so i thought to offer a different objective: a potential reason for why he may have done that...aside from being pompous and guzzling damn near full bottle of cognac.

Nothing i said takes away from his jackass act. However, to make assumptions that one is racist based simply on what you've seen on TV and what you've read or heard, without knowing an individual is no different than me calling you a racist, based on your assumption. Now, care to explain exactly how you're so convinced Kanye's a racist?

So you may have been in the same room as Kanye a few times or something and that means that you know how money changed him? Oh, I forgot...he is "a music artist" therefore, I should have expected you to defend him.

I am not interested in why he is a jerk or a racist. I am just saying he sure comes across as both. Do you know him on a very close, personal level or have you just seen/spoken with him a few times?

His actions lead me to form the opinion that he is racist. Things he has actually done/said. Interupting multiple award shows when a white artist won and black artists didn't, saying Bush hates black people...blah blah blah. He is "that" sort of person. Say what you want, but that is how I feel about him.

This is all opinion (on both sides). I think he may be racist, you don't. That is fine. Carry on, but you have to understand how it can sound like you are trying to defend someone when you throw out the not making excuses for him, but...
