I should have known you would have rooted your Droid and be doing something like this on your phone.
I have been using setCPU for several days on my Hero. While I can't overclock it, I have been able to set the minimum at 160Hz for better battery life. I can also ramp the minimum up to full when I need full performance so there is no scaling down. Some guy on xda developed a new kernel for the Hero and it has really sped things up along with a custom ROM I run. It is pretty darn fast for an "older" CPU. I did a side-by-side comparison with a brand new Samsung Moment that has a better CPU than my Hero and with my mods, mine was running faster by a second or two on identical apps.

lol.. i actually tried the 1.3Ghz rom and it was pretty dang unstable..
yep, my droid is hot rodded and then some... it was stock for maybe 1 day i'm guessing? lol i've pieced together parts of different roms that i like to have something pretty unique although i wouldn't reccomend it for others (its more of a hacker's/geek utility than it is a phone for the avg consumer) now if only the fm radio app would get published and then i can fully replace the car radio with a custom dock and just use the droid. PS: i have a clicker on to the droid to train the dogs in ob too lol |

![]() This coming from the guy who just downloaded an app called "Smart Vibrator". ![]() I have only rooted my Hero, flashed a custom ROM, changed the stock kernel, and installed setCPU. I made none of the software but did manage to do the installs myself. I love that Android allows for all this modding. PS: Going to NorCal USRC show this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed for another V1 from Heiko and maybe a Seiger title.

awesome.. heiko's showing extremely strong!
have you seen the dildroid? LOL, there's a youtube on it... you should upgrade to a droid as it's hw is far superior than the hero's. also, there's a few camps out there that have this upgrade thing down to a science... pretty foolproof.. so you can have all the latest toys that everyone's ranting and raving about (ie: hd video recording, wireless tethering, 2.1 packages, overclocking, connecting to your phone over the internet, etc) i can't wait for the android tablets to come out... the iflop is going to look pretty dumb especially when both are going to be released around the same time |

Anyway, back to Droid stuff.... I cannot go to a Moto Droid because I am a firm Sprint customer. My price plan is too good to leave. I pay what a coworker pays for his Droid on Verizon for the same types of features only for the same price I get two lines. It's hard to beat. I have tapped into the developer world a bit and do have wireless tethering enabled now and I added 2.1 icons a week or two ago. I also changed my boot screen to the Nexus boot screen. There's more to do but I am trying to just use the phone instead of constantly looking to change things on it.You bring up an excellent point about the upcoming Android "slates". A and I are very excited about the prospects and are eying the Notion Ink Adam with keen interest. She was ready to melt her Amex to get an iPad at launch but after the hysteria subsided (she is a hardcore Mac user) she realized the iPad is indeed an iFlop.

Don't count it out before it's out. There may be more to it than meets
the eye. I've read some interesting points of view regarding where this thing is headed versus what people think it ought to be so keep a open mind. Quote:

Most definitely! Apple has the capability to make the iPad so much better and the fact that they didn't, thus far, is what is probably most frustrating to people. The problem is the "where it's headed" part. The question is why isn't there now? Why spoon feed morsels? It's typical Apple from the iPod to the iPhone. I love Apple stuff but their strategy on the iPad is iNsane.

I agree that from the present perception it certainly
seems that way. But then that conclusion of course is dependent on what one was expecting in the first place. I don't claim to speak for Apple but I have watched as they have continued to push ahead making products that continue to make it possible for users to be productive without worrying about the technical underpinnings. From that perspective I did find this viewpoint interesting and worth careful consideration. The iPad's future shock | Tablets | iPhone Central | Macworld A few days after reading this My beloved wife expressed distain for the gaggle of remotes we have. You know, the Plasma, the DVD, the cable box, the receiver, I could go on. So I decided to price a universal remote and "WOW" a good UR cost almost $500.00 then it occurred to me I bet my iPhone can do that. Sure enough there's an App coming out for my iPhone that will take the place of all those remotes and a 100,000 other remote combinations. (The App is Free) The hardware about $50.00. Surly the iPad will do that without a hitch. It just may be that this so called iPad may be what we want it to be rather than what we initially expected it to be. Once a person finds a million uses for a device then "look out" it may not be an iFlop after all..
