I was a fan as a kid...have a couple of her 45s. Old style tunes; she wouldn't get much of a listen in today's 'music'. Had a good TV show, too...
She was a beaut, and had a helluva style.

Lots of famous artists have come and gone and few of the younger generation have a clue regarding their contribution. Recently Lou Rawls was singing a commercial (no picture) and a young girl listening had no clue who he was. Oh well. OBTW couldn't stand the "how much is that doggie in the window" recording.

Hell, I was once humming "Yellow Submarine" and a young lady next to me asked what it was. When I told her she still had a blank look on her face, so I elaborated... "The Beatles."

She said "the who?" I was incredulous. I thought about answering "No, not the Who, the Beatles," but realized she wouldn't get the joke.

RIP PP.

I think we all forget that PP peaked about 60 years ago, and the Beatles and The Who peaked about 30 years ago, expecting some teenagers to know who they are is a bit of a stretch. They'll learn as they get older.

When music appreciation classes disappeared from schools so did the
connection with many aspects of music and those who make it.
I was fortunate to have those classes....

I have only met a few young people (teen agers) who have grabbed a
hold of the Duke Ellington era. It was very surprising and made for a very
stimulating conversation..

I never liked "The Doggie In the Window".

I did like Allegheny Moon, Old Cape Cod, and You Belong to Me, by Patti Page.

I discovered them via Anne Murray's album Croonin'. Great 50's standards like Wayward Wind, Fever, Secret Love, When I Fall In Love, You Belong to Me, Cry Me a River, It Only Hurts for a Little While. Can't remember the rest. Great album.

Now I feel old.
