Ronald Reagan was 69 when first elected to office and 73 when re-elected. The old man hung in there pretty damn well (even despite taking a bullet) and had an impressive stay in office during his two terms.

Youthfulness and appearance is not and should not be a qualification. JFK had serious medical issues that were obfuscated to the public during his campaign and remain undisclosed to this day at the request of the Kennedy family. Had he not been assassinated, he was headed down a road where he may have had to vacate his office because of his ailments.

Both current candidates have opened up their medical records for scrutiny by the press. Yeah, yeah, we all know McCain is old, he's had melanoma, and he's had a lot of broken bones (courtesy of the VC). And Obama has a family history of cancer (mother died at 52), and he smoked cigarettes until he declared his candidacy. Not a show stopper in either case.

Seems to me age discrimination should be way way way down the list when deciding who to vote for as the next president. As for Palin vs. Biden - when you have less than a million constituents voting you in as Senator over and over again, you will, at some point, build a resume. It doesn't mean you're any good.

Personally, I've made no choice. I don't like anybody at this point.

Very good point. As I said though, IF, IF, IF, IF, something should happen to McCain, Palin becomes the President..

That is not a chance I'm willing to take. She ain't got it if you know what I mean and McCain doesn't seem to be that much better a candidate than Obama that it's worth the risk of Palin.

I'm hedging my bet and taking the safer choice.

Sorry but this thread is kind of silly. I mean, did anyone say "Would Edwards get elected over Cheney for the PoUSA?"

I guess I've never seen any election focus so much on the person not running for the primary office. IMO, just shows a little bit of fear that McCain will get elected from people who want to see Obama there AND how little people understand their own government structure. And what if McCain did die in office (ain't gonna happen, but lets pretend). Palin would be made President for the remaining term, in that time she would be advised by the CABINET (McCain), the Joint Chiefs (McCain) and pinned down by Congress. Ah, um, what threat is that again?? None.

And "taking a safer choice"...OK...seems more like you just want to vote for Obama, can't find anything political to base it on, so picked the VP candidate. Which, IMO, is fine and much more understandable than these people who run around not being able to back why they have blinders on for Obama. But why make up a reason As Nike said "just do it".
