‐--------------------------------------- The quick and dirty answer is that they aren’t. Someone who follows liberal values is generally pretty hard to anger and quite level headed kind of by definition. The average person who calls themselves a liberal at this point, however, don’t tend to hold any liberal values. In fact, they tend to be directly opposed to those very same values. If you look at the very far left, there’s an overwhelming totalitarian value system there. Everyone has to agree with them because they’re morally “right” and “good” and to disagree makes you evil. If you study their behaviour, they’re not even really angry at the individual who disagrees with them, however. It’s not even really anger at all, but rather it’s a disgust response. You’re looking at a similar reaction to someone who you just threw a bucket of literal feces over them, because that’s basically how they view it. This is, for all intents and purposes, not political but religious. As such, you don’t get a reasoned response, you get a defensive response or a disgust response, but not a reasoned one. For example, let’s take the implied “liberals” you speak of and how they have an insistence upon the concept of equality of outcome, whereas an individual who follows liberal values would be directly opposed to such and desire instead an equality of opportunity. For the former group, if you suggested different outcomes is actually ideal, you will almost invariably be met with anger and pretty much insanity because the vast bulk of them can’t really explain their position as they don’t understand it, and the few who do, only understand it by excessive amounts of cognitive dissonance. For the latter group, if you suggested equality of opportunity were a bad idea, you’d instead be met with maybe confusion and an explanation of their position, or to attempt to understand where you’re coming from. So yeah, basically the question kinda doesn’t work since it’s the wrong question. What you mean is progressives, not liberals. So to answer the question you meant to ask, they treat it as a religion. To question their dogma is unthinkable and abhorrent. It’s not just a matter of being correct, but a matter of morality, and if you even so much as question that they may be wrong, you’re attacking them personally as their very personality and identity is rooted so deeply in their beliefs that you can’t extract one from the other. Any suggestion, no matter how small, that they may be wrong is an outright insult to them because you are saying they, as an individual, are evil, because they “are” their beliefs. It’s practically impossible, by definition, to maintain that line of reasoning while holding liberal values. Sent from Embassy network using Tapatalk
