335i with auto transmission- overheating problems
There is a ruckus brewing with the 335i about the oil temp being abnormally high (i.e. over 270 and sometimes hitting 300) and the car shutting down.
At first some theories tried to explain it away with the explanation that owners were looking at the oil temp gauge and thinking that they were looking at the coolant temp. but that didn't account for the car shutting down. Such a mystery... But now, *SUPPOSEDLY* BMW has issued a recall for faulty oil temp gauges. Anyone have an automatic tranny 335i that is having this problem? |
Only the auto trans..more boost for the auto or what?
Does the car just go into Failsafe mode..what does shut down mean..headgasket failure? Broken engines? If they are actually shutting down, what's with the recall of the oil temp gauges, seems like the least of the problems? |

It seems to not happen with the manuals... This could all be a lot to do about nothing, but the 3 series message boards all have threads about it. |
no overheating problems on mine..

I read this a while back on e90post. But the issue is not on all cars, only some faulty ones.

Not yet on mine either. Only 2k on the ODO though. Thanks for the heads up.

That has been the big concern on this model! Stay tune as the mileages rack up.

Warranty+loaner+overheating= free test drives and car washes. At least if I run into problems I'll be putting miles on their cars. Makes me worry about the long term though since I honestly thought I might consider buying this one when the lease is up. I'll stay tuned.

Guys even the 'normal' temps seem a bit high. I would be somewhat concerned about turbo/sludging issues down the road.
Gresch an I talked about this: it's very suspicious that the auto's/non-sports don't have oil coolers. Why would some models have them, the others not? They're supposed to be running the same boost etc. It's downright INSANE considering there are two turbos that need to be cooled and that even the naturally aspirated I6 (below) has got one. Most cars these days do. http://www.mwerks.com/gallery/albums...Engine/002.jpg |
it's racking up... heh.. 5000 miles already...
