Help? Time for a pair of new cars. What should I get?

I am going to be picking up 2 new cars over the next month or so. I will probably be getting rid of my 2004 X5.

So what should I get?

Im thinking 535i or maybe even the XI and maybe an E70 X5.
By the way when do the 08 E70s come out. If it is in sept im gonna wait. Is the current 5 series at the dealers an 07 or 08. I thought the 08s were out already. If not when do they hit the showrooms. \

My dealer told me that if I trade my 04 X5 for a 5 series they lower the money factor on a 5 series lease. but that promotion is only on the 5 series and not any other model. Has anyone else heard of this?

Does anyone here currently have a 535? If so how do you like it.

Last question, Will the proceed work on the 535 since it is the same motor as the 335. Maybe Sanguru knows the answer to this.

vinuneuro 07-27-2007 02:09 AM

..what's your neighbor driving these days

DINANM3 07-27-2007 02:12 AM

That jerk still has the M6. But I got over it.
The 2 cars I get have to be daily drivers and 4 doors. So the 6 series is out for now. I still have an M3 on order though for when I need to have some fun.

The '08 5-series has been out since a few months ago. I think the facelift is a welcome addition, and the LED (red) turn signals really shocked me the first time I saw them. Personally if I had the cash, I'd go for the 550i simply because, well, its the top of the line V8. But the 535i is a good choice too and I'm sure the dealership has a handful for test drive.

As for the E70, the '08s aren't out yet. I heartily recommend the 4.8i version if possible since that is the motor that provides satisfying thrust. The 3.0si.........well I think that'd work terrific on the X3 3.0si coupled with a manual.

How about a 7 series? A really sweet car, my uncle just picked up a AW 750, its gorgeous but for $83k I asked him why not just get a slightly used M5???

NOVAX5 07-27-2007 02:07 PM

6 cobalt = 1 550
9 aveo = 1 m5

with that pair, i could have 14 chevys. i didn't realize that until i do a quick calculation.

DINANM3 07-27-2007 04:46 PM

Thats good to know that vishnu makes the proceed for the 535. I figured he would since its the same motor. That makes me want the 535 even more. I thought about the 550 but Id rather have the turbo. Its lighter better on gas and a great motor. I dont think the V8 is worth the extra cash. I test drove both and the 550 didnt feel that much faster than the 535. So I figure with the mods the 535 should be faster and still better on gas when driven normally. The 528 is out of the question. Its a dog. If I get the 535 im putting the aero kit that looks like the M5. and a set of 19s with a proceed.
Im actually thinking maybe even the xi but its slower and has lower gas mileage so im not sure yet

The 7 series is out since I never liked it enough to buy one and it is just to big and expensive to use it everyday for work.

The 3 series is out since its a little small. and I was gonna get the 335 coupe to hold me over until i got my new m3 but I cancelled my order when they told me a prodution delay backed my order up an additional 3 months.

The new M5 is just not an every day driver. especially because of its mpg and range on one tank. Plus I still have my E39 M5 which I love more than anything and still considering SCing it if I can find a good quality system at a good price. I like having fast cars like Ms in the garage for weekends and quick nice cars for everyday like a 535 or X5 4.8

I still have to see rates on the X5 but If its low I may go with a 4.8.

As usual great advice sanguru. It was my first choice but then I found out they stopped importing Yugos a while back so now im stuck with a piece of crap Bimmer. Can you believe that? I have no luck.

DINANM3 07-27-2007 04:51 PM

by the way does anyone here drive an E350. I was considering that also and maybe even a A6. Anyone have any feed back on those cars.
Thanks

i could never see myself needing "a pair" of cars, especially high end vehicles such as the the ones you mention, meaning pair of bmw, mercedes, audi...compared to you i would be listed as "poor" driving an x5.
m5 + 750i is the pair

The MB E-class and Audi A6 are both good sedans IMO. However me being me, I can't stand how "same" the E-class looks. I know MB designs are supposed to be all about the same, but at that price point, I want something that's a bit more daring. Hence the A6. I have no problems with the controversial front-end that Audi has done.

Maybe you could consider a used E38 740i sport? The 1999-2001 740is looked great especially with the sport package and M wheels! The E38 remains the best looking executive sedan IMO.

:iagree: The Vishnu website has the 535i kit advertised. AA Tuning will likely have their 535i Xede out shortly as well, as there is little difference between the 335i and 535i powertrains. The biggest difference is the more restrictive single exhaust muffler of the 535i which translates into about a 10whp loss. Shiv reported in E90post.com preliminary dyno results of 315 whp and 342 lb-ft. back in June back in June for a Procede equipped 535i with V1.47 with plenty of power left untapped. Procede V2.0 software should be out shortly with new dyno results for both the 335i and 535i.

Considering there are dragslips of Procede and Xede equipped 335i's with running mid to high 12's, there's no doubt a Procede v2.0/Xede v1.5 equipped 535i would out perform a 550i at the track, at the strip, and at the pump.

It would also probably outrun your E39 M5.

The $9K difference between a 535i and a 550i will go along way towards buying a bunch of other goodies like exhaust, forged wheels, and a BBK.

For my 2nd car, I'd buy a mainstream hybrid like a Civic, Prius, or Altima. Seriously. We might as well learn what these cars are all about because before long, a lot of us will have at least 1 parked in the driveway. If rumors hold true, the next evolution of the Prius will get over 90mpg.

I'm not suggesting a hybrid for you. I'm just thinking out loud about my personal choice. What ever you decide for both vehicles would likely be a good choice.

thanks for the info. It is very helpful. I agree with you 100% Im 99% sure im going with the 535 for one of them. And the 535 like you said is a much smarter choice than a 550. Its much lighter to and with the proceed will smoke a 550. I wish they would put that motor in the E70. I would get one of those also
