Do you find these similar..

Just curious am I the only one who sees it? I know its pretty late to be making this discussion.. just considering the 335i coupe lately and still can't get used to seeing the sedan. who's copying who here?

I do see a similarity there, but I see more of a Camry - Accord similarity.

The new Accord looks much more European than previous generations. It does blow the Camry out of the water with regard to looks IMO. However, it is no 3-series sedan. Some minor similarities, maybe. I think the two main things are the lines running from the front to the rear near the door handles and the way the rear bumper swoops out just under the tail lights.

no doubt it won't be handling like a 3-series, but what I'm most curious about is whether this is classic case of asian car manufacturers copying subtleties of BMW design, or has BMW lost its way?

Unfortunately I think they are blending into one design. The first thing I thought of whenI saw the e90 was that it looked a little more like a car from Japan than the e46 and the first thing I thought of when I saw the new Accord was that it looked more European than previous generations. I definately don't think most BMW's stand out like they did 10-20 years ago.

I find the the most similar detail of both cars is how the small window behind the second row. With that detail. the whole top of the cars look identical.

The old Hofmeister kink.

you know what I think that was, was the very subtle elegance they had, where they didn't stand out much, they just had this uncanny sense or proportion and balance, which made them stand out only because they looked so refined. blended with all the other amazing qualties you'd find once you were inside. But, now that everything on the road looks very robotic, they're blending more into that? Having to change with the times kind of thing?

The E90 is pretty much 15 feet of car. The design is uninspiring, bland, and essentially it feels and looks like the designers didn't give a damn about the exterior or interior. Our 325i in Titanium Silver, Black leather, and dark wood trim is about as "generic" car as one can get.. I struggle to stay awake driving it.

However, I see more of a similarity in the rear-end of a Saab 9-5 with a 3er. The Accord is just simply 2x as big as it needs to be.

well that's discouraging, is yours a coupe? I have been contemplating trading my e46 330ci(sort of my dads too) for the 335i coupe, supposedly faster than an e46 m3. I haven't driven it yet, still warming up to the design as you can see with my rediculous thread :)
