I can't see the video, but wouldn't the XFR be a better choice to compare??

I'll have to admit, I really like the Jag...

askhao 05-08-2009 11:51 PM

id definetly take the 550xi...

Pentium 05-09-2009 03:18 PM

the Jaguar is good looking and it has plenty of great things esp the interior...but it won't take a sec to think I will take the 550i for sure!

explicitdwk 07-15-2009 11:55 PM

550xi no doubt.
never been a fan of jags

dsm2925 07-16-2009 07:26 AM

i dont like Jags but the Jags body is so much fresh looking... the 5 is getting boring......

Weasel 07-16-2009 08:09 AM

Watching them in the skidpad and slalom you can realize how well the ARS works... the 550i stays level as the Jag has noticable roll. I love the way the 550i drives.

I think Top Gear is going to do a M5 v. XF-R sometime this series. I'm looking forward to that.

Honestly, I'd have to test drive a 5er and an XF back to back. I prefer Germanic interiors but if the XF drives very well, then perhaps its worth a comparison.

dsm2925 07-16-2009 12:32 PM

what are specs like on the XF-R?

AzNMpower32 07-16-2009 02:18 PM

Here's the webseite: Jaguar UK

20" wheels
Comfort Access
Sat nav
Sport seats with adjustable width
5 litre supercharged V8 with 510bhp and 461 lb/ft torques
Combined fuel consumption of 12,5 l/100km combined
Active diff this and electronic that
1891kg kerb weight

The M5 is unfortunately, thirstier (14,6l/100km), heavier (1955kg), and has a smaller petrol tank, only 70 litres. But stats don't show everything.

dsm2925 07-16-2009 02:29 PM

wow

mrkbbd 07-16-2009 11:41 PM

look at the body roll on the jag...and what is with the rollout on the 0-60?

AzNMpower32 07-20-2009 05:04 PM

The latest top gear episode has the Jaaaaag comparing favourably to the M5. It's as good on the road, and *nearly* as good as the M5.

The thing is, I would never really want to buy an M5 as a sports car because it's too heavy. I feel the 5er is supposed to a comfortable executive sedan, not a track burner. In setting, the XF looks to be more comfortable and easy to drive around town. The F1 heritage of the M5 is truly, and I mean really enticing, but I just want a comfortable, relaxed sedan. I see more of a point in the M3 than the M5 or worse, the M6.
