Oil breather filter & need for replacement 3.0d

After learning my 3.0d has one that requires replacement I replaced mine today (80,000) it was totally clogged with oil and muck, the new one has been redesigned where it no longer needs servicing, would suggest anyone with a 3.0d do the same to avoid potential seal problems.

Since what year was the part redesigned? I have a '06 model and I don't know whether I have the updated part.

Crankcase breather

Cant help on the year the redesign took place mine is an 05 model try
BMW or I would remove it and check just to be sure as its an important
component. It sits between 4 & 5 injector, some people are stating it
needs replacing every 40 to 50,000 not so with the new design there
is no actual element in the new one. Price is $155 Aus and a one off.

hey mate - just got mine replaced last week. Cost me $200 for the part and $55 for labour.

Did the reading up and same thing - had the old type of filter, toilet roll shape - mine is a 2004...

Hey Guys
I need to do this to my X5. It still has the old type original filter despite having been fully BMW serviced until recently. (I have absolutely no faith in Australian BMW $tealers). I now do all my own servicing and upgrades so at least I know what is being done.

I have been looking for this part on-line, and have found this Ebay seller.

BMW DIESEL BREATHER VALVE E39 E46 X5 E60 2.0d 3.0d (eBay item 390223093733 end time 26-Jul-11 21:52:37 AEST) : Vehicle Parts Accessories

It is part 11 12 7 799 224. They claim it is for X5, but REALOEM says this part is for the 2.0D diesel motors, and the 3.0D part is 11 12 7 799 225

They look identical. Does anyone know for sure if they are the same part and fully compatible?

At $AU 70 It's a lot cheaper than the $200 being quoted on this thread.

thanks

RE: OIL BREATHER. can't help if the 2.0d & 3.0d share the same breather however I now purchase my parts from.BMW Car Parts, Spares, Accessories, Motormec, UK they are less than half price than here ( isn't that a surprise ) 6 days delivery and oem parts. I know some ebay items are fine but some aren't your call. You mentioned that this part was never replaced well BMW never replaced my oil breather or air cleaner in 65ks either so I have my own mech do all the work on my X while I wait. Also I paid $155 for the breather from BMW in NSW.

Thanks Huntertec
I'm going to give the Ebay source a miss just in case. Thanks for the Motomec lead, that may be useful.

While I was browsing this evening, I also discovered another online store that may be of Interest to Aussies. Based in Denmark, they have an online store with a large range of parts. Instant quote on price + shipping. They accept Visa/Mastercard AND PAYPAL.
