Did all update E53's get the soft tailgate??
My question is, did they all get the soft tailgate? And if yes, does it just open, or open and close at the touch of the button?? thanks guys, Phil |

What do you mean by "soft tailgate"? I have an '05 3d in Oz. As far as I know, all E53's dont have "auto-close" tailgates by pressing a button. They have auto latching, meaning that when you close it, you dont have to slam it shut, just close it enough for the auto latch to take over. The "buttons" are only used to open the latch. The rest is manual. Rob |

06 3.0d owner here and can confirm the above is correct ^^
It's not like the cayenne auto tailgate if that's what you thinking?

Thanks guys!!
Can't remember which one it was, but an online review I was reading when researching the new truck mentioned that all update E53 were getting a 'soft tailgate'. It didn't really delve any further into the issue, but it made it sound like the auto open and close tailgate on the latest ML's and the like!! I wasn't too concerned if they have them or not, but at least now I won't be trying to fix something I don't have!! Haha. Last edited by X-ray Lima; 09-08-2012 at 01:43 AM. |

i think what you are referring to is that you dont have to slam them closed, you just gently close it and it latches its self.
i hate it when i take mine to a hand car wash and they slam the lid, grrrrrrr |
