So, here is an update, I feel like this car is taking up all my time lately! In 2021 I had a whole bunch of stuff go wrong but since then it worked great including a 1000 mile trip to Toronto,...

New stable mate for the E53 and another round of FCP boxes.

So, a friend of mine left these shores to a RHD country and I picked up his 2014 535d X-drive M-sport. At 50k miles and near perfect condition, I just could not let it slip. A new stable mate!

Ball joints

These ball joints are about 22k miles old. You are right tho, worth checking them. Might just do a preventive overhaul when installing the new upper control arms (which arrived last Wednesday, very...

Completed a rount trip to Toronto, ordered adjustable rear upper control arms

We did a round trip to Toronto, ON and covered about 1200 miles in total. Pleased that the X5 ran perfect, only complaint was the loud squeal from my rear brakes on initial application. They are...

Winter tires back on!

Blizzaks are back on the E53, I hate the noise they make but it beats being stuck or having a traction issue with dire consequences..... Bit late in the season but we have not had the conditions to...

87s installed

Suffered a slow leak from a drywall screw in one of my 132s. There are home construction projects all around where I live and picking up a screw or nail every now and then has become unavoidable........

Finally completed the brake hose swap. Free set of front shocks.

All new brake hoses installed. I think nearly 20 years is enough for the original set to be replaced. Had to wait a bit until my 11mm line wrench came in....

Still have the front shocks sitting...

Replaced front shocks, thrust bearings, spring pads and sway bar end links.

In an effort to eliminate a clunking noise in the front end, I replaced a bunch of stuff which finally took care of a problem that had been worsening since the spring. I now have a set of front...

Got a box from FCP with some goodies. My coolant tank was always slightly crusty even though an original obtained from AZ autohaus many years ago now. Even with a new radiator and all new hoses...

Usually the rotors look decent after the first set of pads is worn. So, I run a second set of pads, then dump the rotors and start again. (Those slotted ones on the front were Brakemotion, pretty...

Yes, I always make sure that the suspension settles before torquing up. I'm hoping that removing the old ones will give me a clue what went wrong.

Glad to see I'm not the only one mixing it up! (Also have an M-B GL parked in my garage but, despite having owned a 2000 ML430, that is more coincidence than intent.)

Yes, the low mileage...

Anecdotal evidence suggests that these earlier Cayennes are pretty well made. The V8s need their oil changes on time but then so does any other car. I am not sure if that BAT listing is the right...

Mounted a set of Bridgestone Blizzak

Nearly new winter tires 275/45/20. The old ones were 18" Dunlop Grandtrek winters from 2003! Testament to the quality of these Dunlop tires, they performed very well in the snow and made little...

A shade over 130k

The E53 is doing daily duty ferrying the kids around town for summer activities and shopping. So, to address the slight roughness that INPA showed, I replaced the MAF with a Pierburg that I bought on...

On the E53 V8 it can be done single-handedly but a helper makes it less annoying to lift the exhaust out of the way and when splitting the trans from the engine.
