Ive never had any luck with cleaning a maf meter. I cleaned the one I changed on the 323i just for kicks but it didn't help it any.

I changed the mass airflow meter on my 323i and it fixed the random misfiring when starting up from time to time.

Cant promise it will fix yours but it flat fix the 323i's issues with it.

I haven't removed the one on my 2001 but the one on the 2005 has welded nuts the bolts go into. Well I don't have to use wrenches on back side when I reinstalled it so its screwing into something...

Took the 2001 I just got to a friends shop and paid him to change the fuel filter. Seems to be running perfect now. All the lean codes are gone and a more power now too.
