Heck yeah! Glad to see you back in an X5, you've always had a thing for those, maybe even more so than me!

Should be some good times getting it all fixed up to be 100%.

2003 X5 4.6is Partout

Hey all,

My friend has a 2003 X5 4.6is that he's parting out here in Phoenix, AZ. He's not super active on here so I'm posting for him. Pretty much everything is still available at this point...

X5 Rear Hatch Not Working

Hi all, I've been working on a 2006 3.0 for a little while now and I'm a little bit stumped at this point. The hatch does not work at all. I've replaced the actuator with a (supposedly working) good...

Don't bother with that, it's a waste of time. It's super cheap to just find another V8 and put that in. Plus why would you want an i6 in a V8 X5? A 4.4 already feels kinda sluggish (IMO).

The quickest way to make your money would be to fix the damage and then sell it. Even with a salvage title, a clean 4.8is with low miles should fetch some good money.

Parting out is only the...

Yeah, budget is my main reason. That and the fact that I have multiple cars means that ultimate reliability isn't really a big concern. I don't have a super important job or people that rely on me...

The funny thing is that I probably would have changed the water pump if the X5 was planned to be a flip— in this case I didn't change the water pump because I was intending to keep the X5 for a long...

Bingo.

The water pump was not original, as I noted when I did the guides on this X5 a while back. It's from 2011. Based on the Carfax, the car had around 104,000 miles in 2011, so this water pump...

Why are you getting rid of the rear air suspension? That's one of the best features IMO, especially for towing and carrying heavy stuff. It's easy to lower the rear as well, you just need some...

You would need to change the wiring harness and DME completely. It would be cheaper to just sell your N62-powered vehicle and just buy an M62-powered vehicle.

True, but you probably paid actual money for your X5 4.8is. The X5 4.6is only cost me like $3500 when I originally bought it. For that little money, I wasn't really bothered by things like cracked...

Hm, maybe the wood trim is prone to stress-cracking from the impact of opening and closing the door? That would explain why it's always the driver's side door. One could do some research and see if...

I'm happy with this result because it means I still get to see the X5 from time to time and Graham gets to drive a relatively well-sorted car. Everyone wins!

As far as I can remember, all X5's are produced in SC, even the ones destined for Europe and whatnot. The engines are probably assembled in Germany and then shipped over to the SC factory.

Yeah, I guess the 4.6is' rarity doesn't necessarily mean it's a super in-demand vehicle. The only 4.6's that sell for decent money nowadays are lower mileage ones in Estoril Blue or Imola Red.

Zero interest for the X5 4.6is here on Xoutpost, so I guess I'll list it on Bring a Trailer at some point soon. A 219k-mile 2003 540i/6 sold for $7300 just now, so that gives me hope for my X5.
