Thanks all who contributed. My response is quite belated. But, I've kinda shelved the project for a while. After removing engine.....I have confirmed for myself....indeed this is an interference...

Sounds to me like it could be a malfunctioning Vanos. but hard to say. Does the engine make a loud rattling sound at idle...like a diesel?

Did you do a cylinder leak down test? Unless the chain skipped a bunch, Maybe you don't have bent valves....

It appears to me that you do not have to dis-assemble the front of the car to remove the front clip.

Cannot seem to find any concrete information on this. Ie, can you spin the crankshaft freely with the valve timing chains off, without fear of bending valves? Anyone?

Do you turn your own wrenches? I think that is a must for a E-53 with high mileage nowadays. BMW will with-hold using grease after they bend you over...

CCV Hose leading to Oil Pan Return Tube???!??!?!??

I'm in the process of changing my CCV on my 2002 4.4i. I see there is an extra nipple on the elbow of the CCV facing towards the front of the engine. It looks as though it routes under the intake...
