What about leaving the right side loosely...

What about leaving the right side loosely connected when you raise the engine causing the engine to rotate giving the left side the room needed? It helped a bunch on my E46 doing it that way.

Sounds like you just need to calibrate the new steering sensor. It will take software so if your indy has it have him do it. If not run by the dealer and have them do it for you.

I am definitely one that gently operates everything on my aging E53. Doors, hatch, controls, etc. Drives me crazy when the better half just slams the rear hatch and it has the soft close feature...
