The only way the upper hose can be tight and the bottom hose not is if the coolant flow through the radiator is blocked completely as it might be if you left a rag behind.

The DME controlled heater in the thermostat...

The DME controlled heater in the thermostat lowers the engine temperature a bit at times for emissions reasons. Otherwise the wax pellet motor in the thermostat operates like any other.

Really hard to tell anything with that recording but hissing sound could be an exhaust leak in combination with a blocked cat or a vacuum leak, maybe even at the pan gasket since the crankcase is...
