New rims and tires and now TPM light is on

issue i need your help on guys.since i charge the rims and tires my TPM warning is on,no way in hell im buying 22" runflats!! is there a way to shut the warning and the TPM light off?

You'll need to recalibrate via iDrive. The system is activated through changes to diameter rather than actual air pressure, so it won't know what type of tyres are there. However, I'm sure it will coope with your 22s.

i went from 18 " with run flats to 22" with non run flats.doesnt the runflats have a sensor mounted on the rim?

sdogg888 04-04-2007 11:45 PM

No, there's supposed to be a sensor located on the inside of the rim.
Unless of course you didnt specify that you had a TPMS

Not on the UK spec E70s. The puncture is detected through changes to the rolling diameter (actually as a change to the relative speed of rotation of one wheel compared to others). Perhaps due to legislation there's a different setup for the USA.

Check page 89 of the owner's manual posted at the top of the forum. It would appear that the USA is indeed the same.

i did,and says use only tires certified with RSC.u know the going rate for non-flat 22?

trueX5er 04-05-2007 08:32 AM

Um, well, not to be mean, but did you read the manual? It should give information on the TPM system.
The TPM system and run flat tires are seperate. You do not need to purchase run flats.
Just as an FYI, you can get away with no sensor for now if you wanted, but in 2008 or 2009, you must have them. They will be mandatory on every vehicle.
Good luck!

It appears that Canada and the U.K. have the same TPMS which differ from the one on the USA models. The USA models have the sensors installed in the rim valve.

It is on the inside of the rim. I guess you could take it out and have it installed on the new rim. I am not sure if your new rim's design can accomodate it. I don't see any reason it wouldn't work.

Looks like this.

you'll need to get TPMS sensors installed onto your new rims in order for the light to go off. same thing happened to me when I bought a winter set at TireRack (didn't have the TPMS sensors in stock at the time, but they do sell them installed). I ended up living with the TPMS light for a few winter months and now that my summer rims are back onm, the light is gone (after you reset it in iDrive).

BTW, I wouldn't even want to know how much someone (let alone a $tealer)would charge to install the TPMS sensors onto another set of rims. I think Merchants quoted me like $50/rim, not including buying the sensors!!!

celm 04-05-2007 01:49 PM

now are these a universal sensor? tire rack has some for sale for 56 each, will they work with the BMW system or u have to get BMW TPMS`s?

celm 04-05-2007 02:18 PM

i called up fields BMW and they sai there 45 each retail.so for dealer business it will be cheaper

pseto 04-05-2007 02:24 PM

$56 from TireRack rings a bell, but yes, I'd get them from the dealer too with my CCA discount

celm 04-05-2007 02:29 PM

all done and ordered, have them on tuesday

pseto 04-05-2007 02:58 PM

do you know how much it will be to get them installed and from where?

RM666 04-06-2007 05:42 PM

Does the X5 really have a sensor in the wheel?
I thought that it is like the E63. It has a sensor not in the wheel that detects the difference in rotation of wheels.
I bought my E63 with 18" wheels and installed 20" (not BMW). All I had to do was to go in the IDrive and reset the TPC.

dude i reset that Idrive like 1 million times.and nothing.BMW and bavarian said either take teh sensors out of teh stock rims and put them in teh new set or just get new ones.so for all 4 sensors and valve stems it will be a bit under 200 buck.

RM666 04-06-2007 05:51 PM

I was wrong!!

I saw the manual and the system is different. It looks like it does have a pressure sensor on the wheel.

Sorry :banghead:
