Staggered Question????
 

I have a 03 X5 3.0i AWD and I have been told that I can't do staggered due to it not already have the computer setup for staggered wheels. It came with the same sizes all the way around (17's). Now I want to go to 20's and stagger them but I was told that I may have computer issues with the traction control due to the tires not being the same size. Please clarify?????

In my experience, I went from 18" same size all around to 19"
style 132 staggered, and my '01 3.0 has never blinked.

I recall no posts that suggest there will be a problem...the
OBC via the wheel sensors adjusts in a heartbeat, imo.

Many here have gone to staggered 19s and 20s without a glitch...

I agree with Mr. MotorDavid...i originally had an '03 3.0 and I put staggered 20s style 132s on them and they worked like a charm. Just plug and play...no issues about rubbing, traction or other computer errors regarding your concern.

I'm on my second X5 and I got an '04 3.0 again and i still upgraded to a staggered 20s style 168s and they work flawless.

even though your tires are of different sizes like 315/30 and 275/35 or whatever its ultimately comes down to the overall tire diameter that matters. with a 315 tire its wider but the sidewall height is shorter due to a lower profile(30) than the 35 series of the 275. as long as the total height is the same or very close to eachother between front and back your computer could care less and honestly doesnt know you changed anything. Stick with the recommended sizes and you will have smooth sailing. for the fun of it you could even run a stock 17 inch front tire and a 22 rear with a 305/30 or something similar and your baby wouldnt even notice

thx... I just purchased some OEM 20's for $350 on two good tires. (Yea a true steal). Right now they are somewhat staggered front 275/40/20 -- rear 295/40/20. I just used the two tires that were on there and brought two used tires until I decide to get all new. All has been good so far.

I got the OEM chrome 87 style.
