White ///X5M Delivered - Pics
Well, after an amazingly short 3 weeks, the new ride has arrived.
The white is beautiful in person - classy, but still looks tough. They had a black ///X6M on the showfloor (that I forgot to take pics of) - that looked great too, but would be impossible for me to keep clean as a daily driver. Background sucks on these, but you get the idea: http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l54/HIRISC/CPX5M.jpg http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l54/HIRISC/CPX5M1.jpg http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l54/HIRISC/CPX5M2.jpg http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l54/HIRISC/CPX5M6.jpg http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l54/HIRISC/CPX5M7.jpg http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l54/HIRISC/CPX5M4.jpg http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l5...SC/CPX5M11.jpg http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l5...SC/CPX5M12.jpg http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l5...SC/CPX5M13.jpg |
What are you doing posting pics? Get out there and :zoom:
Congrats! |
Yeah, I should be driving it, but have to work some to pay for it ;)

I love the roof rails! A little black accent! Much better with them then without them. |
I just can't get tired of looking at those pics.
the car is a beauty(looks) and a beast(performance)! |
What a Beauty!!
Best of Luck! Rich:thumbup: |
Sweeeeet! You may want to consider changing your plate to say "BALLA"...just a thought ;-)
|
Nice...
All i can say is wow.Let us know how many Cayennes you destroy...
|
She's a beaut...Congrats! Looking forward to driving impressions
|
CONGRATS! :driver:
|
beautiful the AW is definitely the best color for that car. Tint out the front windows and you'll be set!
|
Sexy X5. Roof rails look good too.
|
Sweet! :goodluck:
|
I think the black looks more agressive but the white is very clean and classy looking! I saw a white X6M in person and it changed my views about the X6 after seeing it in the M version. Another benefit of going with white is that you can get black leather and it still looks good while you're saving a lot of money. The extended leather alone (such as the Shakir Orange or Cinnamon) is a $4,500 option in Canada!
|
The black with carbon leather is dark - I like it, but some might prefer a lighter interior.
One of the dealers in CA had a white over beige - I didn't like it that much. Black does look great - I've been down that road before.. white is a better option for how I use it. I didn't feel that the full leather (dash/console/door uppers/etc) was necessary. Thanks for the nice comments all :) |

First impressions: Interior - Nice, but not close to $92K nice. Hey BMW, how about real carbon fiber? Faux aluminum? In an M vehicle? Shameful, really. My wife's 335xi has real aluminum trim. I didn't pop for the full leather, but I didn't want a full leather dash or door tops in snow country. Seats are comfy and supportive. I like the heads up - hard to see with sunglasses on even at max brightness. The 'M' button could be bigger, but I plan to drive it in 'M' mode all of the time, so this isn't an issue for me. Stereo - Very nice. Excellent actually. A huge upgrade from the premium sound on my '06 4.4. iDrive - Excellent. Really. Again, giant leap forward from the E53's UI and also a nice improvement over the '07-'09 E70. Worth the wait on the 3.0 and 4.8 E70 if you're not pressed for an '09. Looks - Stunning (in person). Aggressive for all angles - in particular the front. Pictures really don't do these ///X5/6M's any justice - as I'm sure you know. The wheels take a beating online because of the configurator and launch pics. They look huge in person. Hell, they are as wide as my Z06 wheels, aka no joke. Driving - Very impressive. Docile in non-M mode and taught in 'M' mode. Exhaust difference is slight IMO, but I'm used to driving some really loud vehicles :) Kept my foot out of it < 5K rpms.. You can tell she wants to go, and I'm eager to see how quick she is on full boost. I can say that this truck (and I'm sure your ///X6M) is deceptively fast. I was cruising easily at 100+ without any real sense of speed. That can be good or bad depending on how fast you want your vehicle to feel. For me, it's just fine. I do like the combination of 'Drive' or 'Sport' + the 'M' mode with or without paddle shifting. Gives the driver the option to loaf along or hit the 'M', grab a paddle and enjoy an SUV that handles way, way better than you would imagine it could. I took a quick cloverleaf that I usually take at 55mph (7-10ths) in my Z06 with the ///X5M at the same speed. Had quite a bit more in her and I don't know the truck that well to push it. Great balance and corners quite flat for a 5300lb vehicle. Should be quite a performer with some more seat time. All in all - An excellent vehicle: The technology package - rear/top cameras/iDrive/nav/stereo w/ real iPod integration (finally) rocks. Looks great, performs (promises to perform) great. BMW needs to put about $2K worth of aluminum and carbon on this line to equal the std. interior of the M5. With that done, very little to nit-pick at this point. More to come after i get her broken in. Nice job BMW (so far). |
Quote:
I've been trying real hard to keep her south of that 5k RPM limit during the break in period. I can't wait to see how she fully performs once I get past those initial 1200 miles. |
Congrats!!
Amazing combo.. I have 10 days until my M arrives  |

My dream car..or at least until Lamborghini makes an SUV. We don't have the option to order here in Dubai, but I have one of the first 4 to arrive. They first shipment are all bright colors, but I may go for a different color when they come in (White/Black or Black/Black). |
I refuse to read this thread until I get my car.
Matter of fact.. I refuse to read this forum at all. Going to go sit quietly in the corner and taste my tears as my jealousy reaches terminal boiling points.. ... Just kidding.. congrats.. and looks amazing. |

Where the heck is your ///? |

He told me, up to 15 days in transport to Oxnard, then has to go through prep, then transport to dealer. I would suspect it's going to be another week or so, AT THE LEAST. |

Eh, probably not to most.. There are only a few car guys in my neighborhood - couple of P-cars, one e63 guy, and another Vette owner. Doubt anyone else know's what the X5M really is :)
Thanks |
Thanks a bunch for the first driving impressions. If you have a few moments, can you expand on the different NON-paddle driving mode choices??
Is it Drive, Sport, Drive-M, and Sport-M? Also: Is the 'M' mode referring to throttle response, or does it refer to both increased throttle response and tightening of the suspension? Thanks and congrats! |
nice , i also like the white a lot
i have a question about your roof rails . i am getting the hardest time getting my dealer to admit they forgot them or something like that . i have been getting every story in the book so far besides "we will make it right". did your car come with them or were they put on at the dealership ? i just now signed for my car and the 3m tape i purchased is being applied as i type , so i have to figure out what the deal is with the rails asap... .:eeps:  :dunno: |
Quote:
M mode is a button on the steering wheel changes the throttle response, opens the exhaust up, and can enable or disable DSC (dynamic stability control), the M-mode specific heads up display (if optioned), and EDC (electronic dampening control) 'shocks' via your setup in the iDrive control panel.
Transmission options:
At least that's how I understand things :) |
Quote:
|
Quote:
You can still manually shift - like you can in the E53 - with the right hand shifter - sport mode/up or down. There are 4 M-Mode options to 'tweak' - indicated above. It's not like the SMG settings in the M3/M5. That's a good thing ;) Launch control is something else to play with, but available only after the dealer programs it in (post break in). |
I really like the white in the X5M. But you would think for $100K BMW would have thrown in a aluminum gas and brake pedal.

You'd also think they would use real carbon fiber and aluminum trim. Not. Even without those items, it's still a nice play to be sitting when you're exercising the 555 ponies :D |
It is an awesome looking ride...congrat!!!
|
I drove the X5M but it was just a quick drive around the block, down the stretch and back to the dealer. It was over lunch time traffic and the sales guy was with me! So I didn't really get a 'feel' for how it drives. I know it surely felt different than my 4.8i and the steering had a lot more interaction. My Current active steering even with dynamic handling feels like it has more play. I didn't get a good chance to take off from a stop light! Does it go like a bat out of hell or does it pick up speed as it slowly lifts it's weight? The Cayenne Turbo felt like the latter. It didn't exactly blast off the line, rather effortlessly pick up speed really fast...
|
Haven't really nailed mine yet - 125 miles.
My brief excursions to 5500 rpm lead me to believe it will not have the lag/delay of the Cayenne. At < 4.5 0-60, she's going to go like hell under WOT in M mode :) |
I'm ready for one of y'all to come out of break-in period and try out a "launch control" start! :wow:
It is supposed to be comperable to launch mode in the SMG transmissions. |

In the meantime, let me express my first thoughts when I read your post... ;puke;, then :thebird:, then :jealous:....but logic quickly came back to me... Enjoy your new ride. Don't forget the pics. |
I think it might be the 60k a year for my education...
After all this..i'm gonna get an X5M...PREOWNED! ..i think the only reason I'm driving around in an X5 and my brother is in an 02 explorer is because i wash every single car in my house..multiple times a week. I wonder how much money ive saved my parents from having to go to car washes?? |

I'm a lot younger than you guys, still being 2 years away from getting a license! When I get to drive though, I'll probably get my mom's 3.0i X5 and get to drive around our diesel sometimes. |

hirisc... You mind sharing what kind of mileage you are seeing. I realize you are still in your break-in but curious with the type of driving you are doing what mileage you are seeing...
Also is the leather carbon trim a metal material or actually a leather/soft material? Curious as may be formulating an order. |
Sweet ride! Congrats and best of luck to you with an AMAZING vehicle.

Mileage is a big unknown at the moment.. I'm 200 miles into the first tank.. I'll post up after I top her off. Can't imagine it will be too good  Carbon leather is leather.. it feels like leather and 'generally' looks like a tight weave carbon. <rant>for $92K, they could have put some real carbon fiber in this thing</rant> I like the carbon leather, but you want to know that it makes the dash pretty dark. There is a thin strip of 'aluminum' under the carbon leather placement on both the dash and the door, so that helps brighten a bit. LMK if you have other q's.. happy to help. :beerchug: |
understandable you haven't filled her up yet. Just wondering if you set the on dash MPG trip computer to see your running mileage per gallon rate. i think thats what its called. referring to the business computer selection button on the left steering stalk that changes the dash display between the tach and speedo.
Love your ride though, its beautiful, I think I'm leaning towrds Silverstone or silver gray on black with the aluminum trim. Was thinking of the carbon leather though but it does look dark, Worried a little that the aluminum trim might scratch easy or get too hot in the sun possibly burn the kids arms or something. thanks for the posts though, In Seattle area the dealers here still dont have one in and are still ablout a month out so very interested in getting perceptions before placing the order. |

I test drove a silverstone ///X5 before I bought mine. It's a nice color combo with the rims - looks better in person than in pics. Another good color IMO is space gray.. My wife's 335xi is SG and it's very rich looking. My wife's car has the full aluminum trim package - it gets very hot and it scratches easily. The latter is why I chose to go with the carbon leather.. seems much more resistant to damage. I just spent 2 hours giving mine a bath and a bunch of polish.. Now time to go drive around. Good luck with your decision.. LMK if I can help further. Chris |
201 miles - 17.4 gallons = 11.55mpg
The 'instant' stalk mpg is hovering about 11.2, so it's actually pretty accurate. In any event, I'm hoping that some additional miles and me keeping my foot in the sub 5k rpms will help get it into the mid-teens. :) |
Thanks for the update. That is kind of what I figured I am sure it will improve a little bit, I would expect mid 12's for city emphasized driving. I get about 13.5 to 14 in my '08 4.8 now where my average speed is about 28 mph and mostly 2/3 city 1/3 highway with a lot of stop and go. So was expecting a little worse more in line wiht the 4.4 in the X6.
Enjoy the driving.... I'm envious |
HIRISC - Did you have a 4.8i before you bought the M?? Just wondering what you think of the sport seats.
I had sport seats in my E53 and they were quite firm. The comfort seats in my 4.8i now are the best option ever! I have my eye on a demo X5M but I don't know if I can go from comfort back to sport seats. I know comfort seats can be ordered on the M, but are they available in different colors or just black?? Dealer wasn't sure either until they actually place an order. They said they basically take the comfort seats and install them in the X5M. Hence they would be just like the seats I have now except without the M logo on the headrests...which I really don't care about anyway... |
Quote:
I had a 4.4i sport - sport seats. To my butt-meter, the ///X sport seats are a little more comfy than the E53's seats. Still lack lateral support (for an M-car) IMO, but they are fine. I believe that the 'comfort seats' are now called 'multi-contoured' and are part of the active ventilated seat package - P/N ZAV ($1900 US). That requires you to also buy the perforated leather ($3800 US). That leather package is available in silverstone, beige or black. The second order sheet below seems to validate this: http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l5...rderSheet1.jpg http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l5...rderSheet2.jpg |
The white looks great! I think that rear diffuser around the exhausts would look great if it was black or carbon fiber, like people do on other M's. Just adds some contrast to the rear, especially with the white! But great cars!
|
Thanks - I agree about the black diffuser.. might have that part wrapped in matte black vinyl in the spring. :)
|
Sweet ride...
I wonder if that M steering wheel would fit my 2011 X5 Premium... I have the wheel warmer button also (came with the winter package) enjoy |
